The KLR is not much lighter. If you are doing real single track. I would much smaller. CRF300, DRZ400, etc.My DR is a good bit lighter than an KLR with more more ground clearance, and it is still a big bike for single track.2013 1200 GSA
tht's the one at my local dealer. I always wanted the blue, but I wound up with silver. Never really saw the blue in person even. So I'm kinda in love. And it's fully kitted. I rarely took mine on anything more than dirt roads, and we're looking at some heavy single track like the trans wisconsin Trail. I'm more of a sport touring ride which is why I was thinking KLR, since it's lighter. But man, this GS.... Mmmmmm....
Psrt of it is for solo travel, and another part because I have a feeling I'm going to end up as the pack mule. Lol!If riding with your son, why not both get a KLR... no point having a faster road bike if he can't keep up on tarmac, and then he will leave you for dust on the trails if you got the BMW
Mostly because we have to cover some ground to get where we want to ride. I've had a DRZ400 on the highway and it was borderline a nightmare. 2nd gen KLR I tried wasn't bad, and the 3rd gen is more of the same. The KLR is not much lighter.
