Sena Prism Sucks

Do the math!
Well for me it has. I have not had a good experience with it yet. I have had GoPros from basically day one. They have been in the ocean, crashes, rain, pools, golf carts... you name it those things where with me and never had an issue.

About a year ago I bought the Sena 10R for my helmet and had been using the GP10 backpack with my Hero 3 to vlog. Once again, never had an issue, the audio was always perfect. So, I make the decision to sell my Hero and GP10 backpack and get the Sena Prism.

WHAT A MISTAKE!!!

So far, I can not say I have had one good experience with it. Everything from audio sounding like shit to now sending the Prism back because it stopped charging. And they said it would take up to 3 weeks to get me a replacement...

Anyone else having issues with their Sena Prism or did I just get a faulty unit?

I was thinking of getting one until I looked at the specs and it will only do 1080 @ 30fps. 30fps is ok but IMO 60fps is much better for mvlogging.

I'll be curious to see if anyone else has had the same trouble.

I use mine at 720 at 60. Works fine for me and longer record times. I have read everyone elses gets blistering hot when charging which is what mine was doing then it stopped charging all together.

Glad you put this up! Had been looking at new cameras lol
I guess I can write pros/cons compaired to my GoPros
Pros:
  • slim profile
  • comes with a gazillion mounting options
  • water resistant with no case
  • auto syncs with Sena headset
Cons
  • Battery life
  • no lens cover (if not in the waterproof case)
  • auto syncs to Sena headset
  • Cant use nav or listen to music if Prism is on
  • Audio is jacked
  • App is a waste of space on your phone
I'm sure I will think of more over time.

Was looking into that as well but picked up the GP 4 Silver. It works great but battery life is just shit with GP. I did back the Fusar Mohawk so hopefully It comes out on time. They BT headset should ship soon so we will see.

Is it a considerable difference in battery life?

True but I already have the gopros shooting at 1080/60 and I wouldn't make sense for me to go backward in quality.

I watched a couple of other users here that have a Sena Prism, and I kinda agree at the very least the audio on them are pretty shite.

So far, the only action cam that has any decent battery life is the Drift Ghost-S that i use.

There really shouldn't be any reason for action cameras to be running 720p60 / 1080p30 anymore. I'd never buy one with that sort of limit, considering it is standard to have at least 1080p60 nowadays. I stopped using my Contour +2 for vlogging because of it's shite video quality, it is now relegated to just insurance evidence duty whenever I wear my night riding helmet that still uses it's mount.

Yes, I was actually going to do test videos but yes. It is a HUGE differenct. The last day I had my Sena before it quit, I had my GP2 running as my second angle camera. Both charged the same time while I was at work and both turned on and started recording at the same time. The Sena lasted about 49 minutes and the GP2 was at least 1:45. The Sena quit on the way home and the GP made it home, stayed on while in my garage while I took my car to pick up my kids and came back and it was still on. Long story short.. It's a HUGE difference.

I had started vlogs that I have bitched about it. I will have to finish those up and post them.

My normal commute without 'too much' traffic is around an hour. The Sena makes it the entire trip probably 50% of the time.

There may be some other factors like outside temp to make the battery drain faster but to me if both cameras are in the same environment they should both drop at the same rate. The Sena also has to use bluetooth which could help drain the battery but if you advertise the camera to be a 2 hour camera, it should at least be close.

Is the battery integral?

No, you can buy spares and replace them like a GoPro but I shouldn't have to buy extra batteries if they say it is good for 2 hours.

No and you right, 40-50 minutes is pretty poor.. But would of sucked more if you couldn't swap out batteries!

I didn't but a spare battery so I have a cable to charge it at my office then take it home with me and charge it there.
