Second camera to have multiple angles?

Hi guys,

I want to offer more camera angles for my viewers, so I want a second camera for the bike.

Currently, my main camera is the drift ghost HD and I can't complain about it.

So I have two options :
  1. Keep the drift HD Ghost (my setting 1080p/30FPS) as my main camera and buy another "cheap" one?
  2. Or buy a new main camera (gopro, drift S, ???) and turn the drift HD as my second one?
If some of you did this or if you have a better idea, please let me know ;)
 
Buy a Mobius camera as a secondary (or several), they're cheap and all the internet is raving about the good quality. It's not outstanding but it's fairly good.
@dandoolittle has one, maybe he can provide a hands-on review.
I have a couple Liq 727 cameras as secondary video feeds, the video quality is even better than my Drift HD but it has way too much problems, I won't recommend it. One problem is wobbly video (jello vision) on certain resolutions, another problem is that the camera overheats and turns itself off, another problem is that it'll record 27 minutes, stop and stand there doing nothing, another non-feature is the lack of mic input and it doesn't perform well (or perform at all) on low-light.
As a secondary camera is good enough, when it works. On daylight. Like on this test video:

Dat cam! So cheap (less than 60€ on ebay); I saw some videos, the quality seems very good. And you can use the standard camera screw for accessories :).
I don't need extra features like external microphone because I will certainly use the recording of the drift external mic as my main audio source ;).

anyway, thx for the advice and the recommandation !
 
Mobius has a waterproof case now as well, that's the only downside when comparing to the drifts, maybe gopro
 
Maybe look for a second hand gopro 2, or drift. if it's going to be your second cam, doesn't have to be top of the line. otherwise there are the chinese gopro clones SJ4000. doesn't look too bad from what I've seen, and like most camera's now days it fits to GP mounts.
 
Check out techmoan.com for his reviews on cheap action cameras. I bought a Drift 720 for my second camera, but for more angles I'll go with the Mobius or something equally cheap but good.
 
I already try to use multiple angle with one cam when I have a long ride. It's pretty fun
but yes, here I want something on the go : When I ride my bike to commute, I just want to press a button and let's roll the camera ;).

The mobius seems to be the way to go :)
 
I plan on getting the SJ4000 Gopro knock-off. Seems decent as a second/backup camera. And as @BennyBones has already said, they are compatible with the Gopro mounts.. And extra batteries cost $4 US or something ridiculous like that
 
Quick update.
I saw a real good price for a drift Ghost S, so I bought it.

Now, I have the possibility to start the camera at the same time thanks to the remote.

I might think at a "commute setup" which will be the standard one. for the moment, I have no clue ... :p

The new £99 GoPro Hero would be a good option for a second camera, and then an SJ4000 as a third. The problem comes when you are trying to charge them all, alongside the various mobile phones, the laptop, the tablet etc
 
SJ as a third? For the extra £20 I'd get another Hero as you'd have consistent colour and audio (if you used the audio).

And add in the fact I have an external sound recorder too and it starts to get a little messy!
 
I have too many cameras, aha i usually try get one on another bike in group rides adds abit of fun :)

I dream of a time when I will have a Top Gear film crew doing all of the camera prep. Then I just breeze out of my luxury air-con RV (On location of course) jump on the bike and go, while they press record on all 20 cameras and sound recorders and I just enjoy the ride!!

WHO AM I KIDDING!! Making the videos is half the fun!!

I went Picture in Picture crazy in my latest video! Even did a 'camera on a stick' for a fair old stretch!

I won't put a link, cos thats naughty, but you can find it if you can be arsed on my channel!!

I guess so many that by the time you've pressed record on all of them, the battery on the first one is already flat!!

Though I think it does come down to 2 things.

Power and editing.

If you have 5 cameras, you'll probably need at least 10 batteries. And extra memory cards. And you'll have to stop and switch them all out at some point.

And then when it gets to editing, if you have too many angles you can very quickly lose the will to live, and with it the desire to finish your project!

I don't think I would ever want to work with any more than 4 cameras.

Too complicated. Unless edited into some crazy video wall, compound lens, flies eye view kind of affair. That could be cool...
