Rip Gopro :(

I'm back! Was away on my honeymoon in Puerto Rico. And unfortunately, my GoPro Hero 3 suffered a watery death. My waterproof case isn't as waterproof as I thought it was, and it died when the case flooded while snorkeling around a reef off the coast of Culebra. So that's the end of my regular motovlogs for a while unfortunately. I'll be picking up another GoPro during the winter, so I'm not giving up yet. I'll just have to figure out what to do to keep my channel active and interesting during the winter.

Snorkeling should not have caused a leak unless you were really doing some James Bond stuff. Like walk to the beach to snorkel and then really are swimming down to film an enemy sub.

So here's what happened. I haven't used my waterproof case in a long time. The latch that holds it shut was missing, possibly lost in the move. I swapped over the latch from my non-GoPro brand skeleton case. I tested it in the sink and it worked, so I called it good. Not so much under more than a couple of inches of water, though.

Ironically, after all this went down, I found the GoPro latch that should've been on the case in the first place. It does shut the door tighter than the other one.

I think I'm pretty much SOL, since I mixed and matched GoPro and non-GoPro parts, and my Hero3 is a few years old, long out of warranty. Time to save my pennies for a replacement, unfortunately.

I have the best wife ever. She just bought me a Hero 4 Black for my birthday that isn't even until next month. I think her Jewish guilt may have played a part, since she was swimming with the camera when it drowned. (I take full responsibility for the drowning - I set it up myself and tested it before giving it to her to go snorkeling.)

Looks like my vids are about to get an upgrade!
