Replacement Go-pro Mounts. Will The Knock Offs Work?

Hey guys & girls. And as Cowtipper81 says "everything in between"

I have an issue that is starting to get real old real quick.
I use a Go-Pro3+ that is mounted to the left side of my helmets chin guard. The problem is either the poor build quality of the mounting or more likely I am too hard on the clip that slides into the mounting.
I have now managed to break the 3rd one. I know that it is due to repeated stress that it breaks.

My issue is that in my beloved South Africa, the replacement parts are (not to put to fine a point on it) expensive......

Now I know that there is a Go-Pro knock off out there, I just do not know if that device uses the same mounting . If anyone who reads this uses one of these units. Please can you let me know if the mounts match.

TANX very much..... ;)

That's one thing that I'm happy about with my Garmin Virb Elite. It's got a cradle which the camera attaches to, so you aren't clipping it all the time, but rather fastening it.

I'm following this post. The Garmin comes with a GoPro adapter mount, and I can do with some more mounts :D

the knock off are hit or miss on quality. I have bought some that are great and others that dont fit at all, either too big or too small. Its just a trial and error process until you find some that work for you. Ive had the best luck with the mounts that come in the 35+ piece kits on amazon in a carry case, but you wont want to keep buying those kits cuz you can only have so many carry cases with selfi sticks in them.

The problem is the replacements, The Go-Pro pack is about R380-00 here in South Africa, and that gets pricey for only one part. I really have no issues with the rest of the links and parts. Thanks for the insight.

From my experience the "clip in" style aftermarket mounts aren't up to par with the OEM GoPro ones. Most fit loose and won't hold the camera without vibration. And I wouldn't trust them to hold at speed. The cheap comb mounts work fine though and I have several.

Which piece are you breaking? The part the flexes and slides in? I have just never broken one ...

Indeed the flexing tabs that slide in and under the mount, I have broken 3.... You lucky duck.
Thank for the advise though. Mayhaps it is better to pay the premium and be sure of what I am getting.

Original or knock-off, if you are always sliding the part on and off, it will eventually break. That's common. I would suggest to get a bunch of the knock-offs, and once you slide it in, NEVER remove it. You don't need to keep removing it if you have a bag full of them right? Anyway that's my workaround. I never remove the part with the ears anymore, I just leave it there. I have lots in spare just in case one should break but since I never need to slide them out, they don't break.

I recently had a tumble while riding and the cam got smacked, no damage to the cam/housing/mounts, and yes I was using the imitations.

End of the day it depends what you feel comfortable with.
