Damn mate, sorry to hear that :( I hope you manage to get it all sorted but at least you havnt been put off :) It might be worth finding out how much they want for you to buy back the wrecked bike, you might be able to sell some parts like the engine and make a profit.

Best idea would be to get something cheaper to insure. When I got a quote for the Ninja 250 it was something like £900 TPF&T with 2yr NCB. Maybe something with a half (or 'bikini') fairing - might take it out of the insurers sport bracket.

my ninja 250r was a brand new 61 plate and i was quoted £1236 fully comp with 1yr NCB, but what bikes would you reccoment i should get?

Staying at 250, the Hyosung GT250 or GT250R were cheap to insure - around (£390 @ 2yr NCB). I know a lot of people have prejudice surrounding anything not carrying a Japanese brand, but the Hyosung is a great bike. Build quality has really improved over the last few years and the bike is quite comfortable. Comparable to the Ninja in terms of power, too.

You could also look at getting a Bandit or equivalent restricted bike, my Fazer cost £600 to insure this year. Looking at ~£800 with 1yr NCB. Depends on your area of course. It would probably be cheaper to restrict a larger bike as the purchase price is generally lower.

I would definitally recomend a Hornet, Fast, cheap and looks the dogs bollocks! You can pick up a 1999 model for under £2000 in good condition, It has a retuned CBR600rr engine in it.

Yep, the Hornet is a nice bike. Only problem is that I find Honda to be one of the most expensive makes to insure.

Fair enough. Maybe a lot of Honda bikes are crashed in my area then! Just got a quote for a 1999 Hornet - £740!

i just found out from the farmer's concrete post i crashed into that yesterday someone also had a crash on the same road on the other side.

The hornet was introduced before the 600rr was, if anything its a highly strung 400rr or a complete different engine.

Only way is to not make a claim, just buy the bike back dont claim sell the bike as spares or turn it into a track bike?

You will lose all your NCB + you've had a claim in the last 5 years. If you dont claim, you will lose what the bikes is valued which is less than what your insurance will be over the next 2-3years.

Think long term, might hurt the pocket now, but getting insurance with a black mark against you can be expensive in the long run.

Sorry for any typos im on me' phone.

It was a Honda CBR600F engine that they stuck in the original Hornet.

Always found it ironic how the Hornet was spawned from original series CBR600F parts, then after traveling its own way for a bit Honda used it to make the 2011 CBR600F.
