oh great - Movie maker recovery question

I've been working on a video for 3 -4 hours, on Movie maker... and it all disappeared when I tried to split a clip. so, thinking it was just glitched, I exited the program, was asked to save & did.... and now... that version is pooched.
Any protips to recover?

Does it not have an auto save function?

if you have the moviemaker on windows 8 onwards then there is a auto save and recovery function. If before that then enjoy making your video again mate
