My setup is pretty simple. I use my cell phone for audio and as a face cam or dog cam (for when my dog rides with me), have a set up cell phone earbuds with mic covered in quilting batting stuck up inside the temple of my helmet, and a "no pro" on the side of my helmet. It's not fancy and took a while to get it just so, but it works.

I made my first videos with a GoPro on my helmet and exactly the same audio setup you're using! The mic I have now sounds better and I didn't have to sync the files later, but the earbud mic was perfectly OK.

Ingenuity is what makes the world go round. When you can't afford the best, you make due with what you can afford. That camera is a cheap knockoff, but it does just fine.
