New Top Poster Award

Moto Mengy won the last one, but was away. I have to admit, I have been a little busy over the summer months, one of the reasons I've not posted a lot on here, am guessing the same for everyone as it has been quite quiet on here the last few months.
I will be updating it for Octobers Motor Mouth though, so y'all best get posting and chatting! :D hahaha

I've been here... and sharing my immense volumes of knowledge where applicable and not prohibited by law.

And I thank you because my garden looks so lush and healthy now...

Just kidding. My garden is frostbitten.

You do great participating on the forum. We need more of that from all the members. Maybe we can do a PSA -

Opening shots in black and white of different bathroom stall doors, lobbies, and office desks.

Narrator - for the time it took you to watch this, you could have commented on something over on motovlog.com.

Cut to a motorcycle helmet with an action camera sitting on the saddle of a bike

Narrator - won't you give today?

Loud party music plays as motovloggers are together bouncing around.

Cut to close up of one motovlogger and he says - motovloggers ready to party are waiting to hear from you over on motovlog.com. ATGATT required. WHIOOOOOO!

Million dollar ideas there folks. Just give my the conceived by line in the credits in 48pt font.

Oh man, well, thank you?

Also, those are great ideas... we need Sarah Mclacklan [misspelled on purpose] to score it.

... For only 3 comments a day, less time than it took you to watch this, you too, can help out a fellow YouTuber. Won't you consider using Motovlog.com to share your knowledge and help the community of Motovloggers grow? So, skip doom-scrolling on Facebook for 3 whole minutes a day and you can make a world of difference for a motovlogger in need.

I have to agree John, you have given a lot to this forum in the short time of your joining.... as has the other regular posters. I just wish that the new members that join got stuck in too, although we do get a lot of fire and forgets, who join never to return, there are also a lot of lurkers who login on a regular basis, but never post. I don't know what we can do to encourage them to join in, this is a motovlogging community forum, where we follow each others adventures... but if people don't join in, we don't even know they are here to go check out their content. I've drastically reduced the amount of videos I share on here as I don't need to share them, I know that those on here who are interested in my stuff, will watch my stuff.... as I do theirs. But for us to get interested in the members that lurk, we need them to interact and post what they are up to, let us know if they get a new bike, or camera, or find a decent setup that works for them etc.
I hope as the winter hits, more will start posting as they can ride less maybe.

And to recruit those that may be seeking knowledge -

Scene is a steep hill with wind sound effects. A lone figure is tattered but still making it up the hill. They have a helmet and action camera.

Once to the top they find a motovlogger sitting in the lotus position - how can I help you?

The tattered rider - how can I make my POV better with less shake on my videos?

Cut to just the words on the screen as we hear the guru motovlogger say

I have to say I loved the challenges though I never got the actual Solar Bear trophy. I wonder if some folks that may be shy might be up for a simple challenge like take a photo or short video of you on you bike with an ice cream cone.

Just an idea. Or we can do an ad campaign contest for the website.

The winner gets an autographed pic of one of us signed by a another one of us?

Thanks! I just like to help others speed up their process when I can.

As for getting more engagement, that's a tough one... and I don't know how to grow it. I think a fair number of people join here thinking it'll lead to overnight success. But that's not going to happen. I also don't share my vids here, but maybe I should share one occasionally to get some newer people viewing my channel - they might be able to learn a thing or two, since I cover the behind-the-scenes more than most.

A lot of new motovloggers - myself included - don't understand that this community is one that needs to be fed to grow - you don't grow by isolating yourself - you have to interact with the community in order to grow.

That's definitely worth a short film :D

Maybe it is time to bring back the Solar Bear / Sunny Bear challenges. My issue is I don't have time to organise them, and currently barely have time to sort my regular content out, so making more would be a challenge in itself.
A 9 video challenge, is probably too much for most, so maybe a smaller one... maybe a 3 video challenge or similar. Sadly, the Solar Bear challenge never seemed as popular, guess the Aus YouTubers are less inclined, which means that the northern hemisphere lot, would be in winter, so also harder to get involved. Maybe a new idea is needed, instead of a winter/summer time challenge, maybe a spring/autumn one would suit more people.... but there are folk who have very short riding seasons, like @Theodor etc.
I like the idea of a sales pitch to the forum... obviously as that would drive people to join.
What about making a video short to get folk to join up? Those that make one, can share it on their socials, and the forum can share those vids, directly onto it's socials rather than a link to here like we do for the monthly motor mouth vid?
I am sure most are aware of the YouTube Shorts / TicTok / Instagram Reel vids now, and the format they need to be in. As a tip I have seen others do, if recording a video short type thing, they mount their helmet camera in portrait orientation to get better resolution and to save them cropping it when editing. I am not really a fan of the format, I prefer long form vids, but all the cool-kats are doing them, and they are apparently great for views for a channel.
What do you say?

I got an email from YouTube Creators where we can make a Short from our regular video.

Then about the challenge idea - I like Spring or Fall so it can go world wide.

Hate say it but maybe some new "old" members can each take on running a different thing on here at different parts of the year?

Yup, nothing wrong with you lovely folk taking on a project/challenge etc, Theodor did so a while back... I don't want you putting your hands in your own pockets for prizes though, I think prizes should not really be the point personally.
I have made some reels from videos I've recorded, posted some recently on my own socials... but there is def a quality drop when cropping, especially if like me, who record at 1080... so the tip on turning the GoPro 90' is more for myself and those playing with 1080 footage :-)

I am actually contemplating asking the owner to let me create a profile for me to admin things from on here, which would then allow my Hippo profile to be me, rather than the forum rule enforcer... I know I have annoyed a few members in the past by doing my job on here.... but I also like to take ownership of that, so if they don't like my moderation/administration of Dan's rules, they know they can just point the finger at me, rather than the forum.... but it must seem like to some that this is MY forum, which it very much isn't, it is OURS, it is every members forum who takes the time to comment on posts and start new conversations.

If you get an alternative ID for admins may I suggest Rhino?

They live near Hippos and look tough.

Humm, were those originally rendered at 4k using the trick?

Yup, but remember, you are basically reducing the quality to 33% if you crop a landscape into a portrait, so a 1080x1920 video, would become basically a 640x360 video.... and you'll lose the VP9 perk, so rotate the camera, or record at 4k is my thoughts. I know if I was intentionally shooting a TicTok/Short/Reel then I would rotate the camera for it.... if I had recorded somit that I thought would make a good short, then I'll just crop it, but def worth the effort if doing something intentionally in my eyes! :-)

Dude, I totally learned something new - turning the camera so it records in portrait mode... I can EASILY do that with my side-mount helmet rig!!!

May just have to do that :D Thanks!
