so i recently put on a new rear tire and as everyone knows or if you dont know *TAKE IT EASY* lol felt my rear tire slipping a lot and i wasnt even pushing it.. at least i dont think i was :) that residue that they come with can bite you but all is well and i thought id share that.. Anyone have a similiar experience with new tires?

Is this "residue" your talking about what the internet will call release agent?

Because if it is most manufactures no longer use it. I think from memory there is only one that still does.

I'm thinking its more the crap the tire fitter used to get them on thats the problem.

Yeah , think the tyre fitter used a little too much soap and water.

Never had an incident with a new tyre, front or rear.

I've had both front and rear changed recently on the Fireblade and was told to take it easy by the tyre fitter (decent local small business). From what I understand the tyre(s) need a couple of heat cycles through them before returning to your normal riding style. The rear tyre didn't bother me too much but I was very wary of the new front tyre.

I just used the Fireblade for the daily commute for a week and after that it was fine.

I think the tyre shops tell you to take it easy them at least if it all goes skyward within a mile or them you can't blame them.

As stated, this used to be a problem but hasn't been for years as the greasy releasing agent is no longer used. I guess people don't like to let go of the past though.

My tyre fitter goes out on a 1-2KM run to scrub the tyres when he fits them. He always scratches the pegs :p

Years ago, I had a dealer do a tire change and the valve stem was not in tight. I rode it about 100 miles and had to run in a store. When I came out, the rear tire looked low. I checked it with the gauge and that is when I saw the valve peaking up.

I still have dealers tell me to take it easy for the first 100 miles or so.

Cheap or old tire is one thing that crops up

The other is people getting so para about a new tyre their riding goes to shit and throttle control is judders you and the bike is unstablised....

New tyres are fine as long as you are smooth

There is something in the heat cycle thing - but to be honest not much that will affect 99% or riders.

It's all in your head - readjust your thinking about it all, and you can leanr to enjoy scrubbing in new tyres!

If you need something more solid, then think about someone who'll stick a brand new tyre on a race bike and then do about 1.5-2.5 miles scrubbing it in before doing a race.

Tyres are so bloody good and grippy these days it never fails to amaze me!

[old rider mode on] Not like when I first started and you'd highside before they got the bike off the paddock stands etc...[old rider mode off]
