New Speed Cameras? Uk

Hi guys,

Not sure if you are all aware about the new "rear facing" speed cameras in the UK?

They have been installed on the M25 over the past year on the left hand side of the hard shoulder and adjust to the speed that is displayed above the lanes (due to accidents or congestion)

They are now being fitted on the M3...

What are your thoughts on these?

Post a photo or link. What do they look like?

We have these "gantries" on our highways, massive metal bridges with cameras pointed downwards front and back. Hated.

They are very inconspicuous so it seems its a money grabbing exercise haha
nothing changes..
They have a little spot of yellow on them now to "identify" as a speed camera... when before they were great like in the photo....

Wife got caught out by one the other day. Its a money making racket, they drop the speed for no reason and then generate a LOT of money. The M3 is going to be the biggest money maker in this country once they have them all installed. The average speed check cameras that are still on there even tho work was completed 12 months ago have generated a huge amount of income.

It's a complete money making scheme this side as well, funny thing here is that 40% of all profits leave the country tax exempt.

Went down the M3 yesterday....

there was a sign saying: "speed limit in place due to testing" haha so they can keep the 50 speed limit on a four lane motorway
Testing what?

The new HADECS3 cameras can do average and instant speed. If you remember the pile of tickets being handed out for people doing 79mph on the Clacket Lane side of the M25.

I think cameras on our motorways is more harmful than good for safety as folk concentrate on them rather than the road and watch their speedo rather than other cars!

Oh yea and they slam on in front of them when they are only doing 71MPH .... Watched from behind as the lady slowed down to about 62 in a panic she'd get caught speeding.... (This was yesterday).

I can confirm from yesterday that this sign is now gone...

I think people forget that when they slow down for the camera then speed off again!

[BMW and Mercedes Drivers you f***ers] haha :)

I live in a pretty rural part of Japan and I know all of the speed trap locations the cops like to wait at so I kind of have free reign where I'm at :) The highways are dangerous though, unmarked cars love to roam and catch people exceeding the ABSURD 80kmh speed limit.

Woah that is very slow...

Back in July i went from Southampton to Basingstoke on the M3. Didn't see any. But i am fully aware of them cropping up closer to the London area of the M3.

I'd just say avoid Motorways all together now. Unless it's absolutely vital you have to go on one, just stay in the slow lane, safest bet. if you go in the middle to long you get fined. and in the fast lane you just have idiots tailgate you to push you over the speed limit.

Motorways are DVSA/DVLAs little baby, they will regulate/restrict the shit out of it... which is what they're doing really. We need an Auto-Bahn not a Smart-Motoway!! :D

Actually, very little to do with DVSA. Highways Agency deals with main arterial roads, and the Police deal with people speeding as it's a criminal offence.

Still, people complain about the Nanny State, yet they behave like babies. Why do they put a camera up? Because lots of people speed there, and there have been speed related incidents.

Managed motorways came along because nobody heeded the yellow warnings of congestion ahead or an advisory speed limit, so they made it so you had to comply or face a speeding fine.

Yeah motoways are boring as. 10/10 avoid if possible. As for speeding fines etc... basically a racket like insurance
