anyone else on this? Looks like it has the real deal image stabilizer from sony!
With all the problems folks have had with their hero5, and my own complaints about the ergonomics of my hero4, as well as the clunky terrible gopro software for my session...I'm willing to jump ship.

I know the ghost HD is coming out soon too...

but I'm looking for ANY input on the whole range of sony action cameras. there jsut so many, and I can't even begin to understand all the different types of "image stabilizer" out there.

all i found was this video
sony looks like a winner from that as far as smooth image goes!

I'm on a Sony for a few weeks now. Link to my 1st video:

The Sony has 2 IS modes. The High stabilisation looks too wonky on a bike. The image rotates along the Z-axis making it look like you're on a boat. The Low IS looks fine to me, but haven't tested it on a bike yet. We currently have -16°C and 20cm of snow.

Also, High IS means FOV reduced to 92%, Low IS reduced to 98%. No IS means 100% FOV.

Overall it's a great camera, especially with the seperate live view remote. By plugging both the remote and the camera on a USB charger fitted to the bike, you could make it a permanent rear view camera. Imagine the possibilities.

The only problem I have in the first place was, you can't set the external microphone input level. I have found a workaround by plugging a volume regulator from the Shure EAADPT-KIT in between the cam and the mic. Works like a charm.

Other + points
- records one big file instead of 30-ish mins files with gaps like the Drift Ghost-S
- less usability bugs than the Drift
- has GPS and Livestreaming
- super cool finger grip

When the weather is getting more riding friendly I'll record more videos for sure.

The only gripe I have with the Sony is that there is no way to chin mount it. That's why I went with a VIRB Ultra. If it had the regular form factor, it would have been better suited for motovlogginng. Stabilization looks stellar though, not sure how much it is needed for a helmet mount though.

No way to chin mount? I don't think so :)

This is my mount.

Digital image stabilization is about as useful as digital zoom IMO. If stabilization is your main goal you should be looking into gimbals.

My biggest issue with the hero 5 is the inability to cut the waterproof case to run a nicely sealed mic cable. Why not toss in that new awful 50 dollar adapter that you'll have to mount somewhere and is never in stock
