New Camera

hey guys I'm looking to get into motovlogging and was looking for some camera suggestions. I had a GoPro hero 4 but returned it due to constant freezing issues. I was looking at the drift ghost s, ion air pro 3, and a couple Sony cameras.

I want a 1080p60 camera and would prefer something that can record and charge... I was set on the ghost s but worried about the audio quality from some threads I read.... What do yall suggest?

Is that audio problems with the built-in mic ooor what? To my knowledge it's compatible with a lot of external mics and I quite like the sensitivity setting. It's been difficult to get it right, but I'm finally a bit happy about sound. I have a few Motovlogging friends that use Sony cameras and the quality is pretty good. Very comparible to the Ghost HD S and a bit cheaper. But I find the availability of accessories a bit disappointing.. I don't know anything about the ion air pro3... :x

From what I was reading it's a high pitched feedback noise when using an external mic. I think most said it can be taken out in editing to where you can't hear it but just want to make sure before I drop that kind of cash on a camera.

I have not been having that problem personally. (as in didn't even have to edit it away) But if you read it somewhere, I reckon there must be people who -do- have that problem. Odd.

Awesome good to hear. Most of the posts I read were over a year old and I didn't find anything recent so they may of had a firmware update to fix it... Think I may order one soon

I prefer the drift only have the HD, the 60 fps makes me feel dizzy, more to do with the shape than anything and freezing will be your memory card more than likely.

i love the picture and sound quality of the go pros you can tell the difference between drifts and go pros but i much prefer the sleek design of the drift over the bulky gopro

Mine could have the whine. But after years of motorcycle riding, factory work my hearing isn't the best.

Still can filter out the wife's whine though.

Hey guys I already went through gopro support and they said it was defective. The camera would freeze even without a card in.

That's what I'm worried about... For the same money I can get another silver and try it again

I am worried about the quality difference. I do have a session which I love just no external mic... I can get either camera for the same price

I have the GoPro Hero4 BLACK and It's pretty spot on! I would prefer a sleeker design but the quality is spot on and I record in 1080p @60fps and get 4.5 hours out of my 64GB card, only issues I've had have been user errors and accessories failing, the camera itself has been spot on, and you can charge and record really well.

Do you charge while riding or just carry extra batteries?

I've got the Hero 4 Silver and been impressed with its quality. I run out of room on the card before the battery dies (i only run 32gb cards). I take out a second battery and second card and can get a full days riding to bring home.

For me personally that setup is a no go. The camera generates way too much drag that way and it starts hurting my neck on track days. I also really don't like using tape on my helmet, personally.
In regards to the quality difference. If you don't mind the drag and the fact that it sticks out, or can neatly mount it on your chin piece or something like that. I would go for GoPro for quality and for Drift for longevity in regards to battery life. I think those are the two strongest feature of either camera.

Ok guys so after doing a ton of research this weekend I have decided to go a new route... The hero 5 was confirmed for this year so I am going to wait to get a expensive camera until they come out and either get one of those or a 4 black if the prices drop some...

So until then I just want to try it out and see how I like making videos so I would like to get a setup around 100-150 bucks... I can get a 1080 30fps, 720p 60fps camera for now.... What camera would yall recommend?

This is going to be a helmet mount camera only as I have my session to record other stuff I don't need separate mic for.

Get one that uses the same mount as the GoPro, and save yourself that hassle. If you're sure you're getting the 5, I would recommend that definetly.
