Yeah I just shopped around a bit, cheap parts are still out there to be had if your willing to sift through ten thousand ebay ads.

Quite, I wear all the gear all the time. I've crashed four times and this is the first time I've ever sustained an injury. Every time I've got back on my bike and rode home without any gravel rash or any serious injury. So far so good!

I do squid admittedly, but I really stare at my gear thinking "Strider, the Gardensnake. Remember the Gardensnake. Wear gear. Just put it on. It won't be that hot out."

Oh I'm not hating on you or anything haha!!! It just bothers me to see someone not wear gear even though I'm debating on wearing shorts because the weather is like 103F here almost everyday, but I'd rather sweat then loose some skin!

Oh no, I totally agree. Sometimes I decide not to, but I am doing better. TGS has motivated me to do more!
