Motovlogging In Winter

So this will be my first winter season not just motovlogging, but riding. Already it's causing issues with my ability to upload content.

For starters it's dark before I've finished work, so after work rides to record are no longer an option. I'd record on the commute, but it's only 1 mile of uneventful road, I'm just too lazy to walk :p

The ever worsening weather isn't great for filming. I'll ride in rain, but it's just crap and miserable for content.

Ice. (need I say more?)

So my question is, how do you seasoned riders/motovloggers get around this? I've got 1 or 2 videos worth of content saved up for a rainy day (intended), but is there anything else I can do to keep a steady-ish stream of fresh content to upload?

i'm in your boat.... Winter for me in New England sucks... I planned on doing some maintenance how to's and some mod vids. Also, there are a lot of bike shows and such I can go to. It will not be riding, but it is still relevant. One day I would like to pick up a cheap dual sport and throw some snow tires on it. Then I can take that around on nice days in the winter without worrying about all the salt ruining my nice rides....

I had thought of getting a winter bike, a cheap supermoto or something that I won't care about dropping but I don't even have enough money for that so that plan was a write-off haha. Maybe next year.

I do kind of have plans for winter maintenance, my main goal is to strip the bike down to the frame, sand blast it then get it repainted black. It's been a commuter bike for 10 years and racked up 50k so the silver frame is showing some age, a new coat of black paint would make her look new again. Whether or not I'll have time is another matter though. I guess if it snows I could get that done

a few of my vlogs are at night or very early morning. i'll scratch up a topic keep it on my phone topic list (notes) and if i need to run to the store or get lunch or go to a meeting off ship i vlog then. and i have thermal underwear ;). as for winter content i say the hows to vids and project vids are awesome ideas!

Yeah, I am dreading the fact that it will soon be too cold to ride comfortably....I am going to have to come up with filler content for 2.5 months or so until it is nice enough to get back on the bike.

just get some really good thermal layers. bass pro, cabelas, hunting stores will have a bunch on sale soon. then there is heated gear i have heated gloves which are awesome. i'm looking at socks and jacket next. but you can ride comfortably in winter if you as smart and set yourself up for it. the sedici thermic base layers are great because they are windproof. a set of carhart arctic coveralls are good too. you know layers like an onion.

Unless you're super attached to just doing bike vlogs then you could always do other stuff if you enjoy making and putting out videos, like a car vlog or something.

My plan is to layer up, bite the bullet, and ride as much as I can. I do expect content to slow. Maybe once a week or so. I also plan on doing some reviews and how-to videos in the off season as well. You could take a weekend or a day that you aren't working and ride as much as possible and film a lot of general vlogs that aren't time sensitive as well. Save em up and sprinkle them along the off season.

I'll branch out and try some different stuff - wrench on the bikes, car vlogs, etc. I probably won't put stuff out as often over the winter though. I know everyone says to keep a regular schedule, but I'd rather make sure I have good content than post crap to keep on schedule.

I plan ahead and have a few saved up to use through the winter. Or just make a mash up video. Or do some review type stuff off the bike.

Started planning ahead and got a few saved up already ready to upload, hopefully I can get a few more saved up to last the icy months when I won't be riding.

I could do some how to/maintenance/diy type videos but knuckles tend to get scraped and spanners end up getting thrown, I'm not the calmest of mechanics :p more of a clarkson type mechanic, if it doesn't work find the biggest hammer you can and bash the hell out of it. I've even resorted to using a scaffold pole as a tool before. So I'm probably not the best guy to be showing others how to do stuff :D

That would make your how-to videos MUCH more entertaining than most! :D

Maybe I should then! I wouldn't get much done though, most of my time gets spent swearing and kicking whatever I'm trying to fix. I once took a lump hammer to the gearbox on my old car cause the damn thing wouldn't come off. I won.

I'm in the same boat. At the moment I'm still using my perforated summer gloves which makes every ride with these temperatures a total torture! So for my commute, especially at 5 in the morning, I prefer to take the car :D Weekends are pretty much the only time where I can go out and actually record something remotely interesting.

I'm thinking of going on vacation back home to Hawaii ! Or even Thailand ! I love i Japan so it's not that cold here. But it does pose some
Problems !
