Microphone Wind/engine noise

Hello there ive just went out on an attempt to vlog and theres a lot of wind noise and my engine noise is to loud so it was hard to hear me could anyone tell me how i can stop this thanks

im using Drift HD 1080p

Mate - it sounds like you have no external microphone? The built in mic is no good for motovlogging. Buy the external mic and fit it inside your helmet, tucked into the cheek pad is a good place.

With the ghost you can turn the mic sensitivity down and that sorts out wind noise.

A good external mic will work wonders as well

mmm .. the sensitivity setting is useful .. however even on low setting ... riding speed with the cameras on-board mic .. it still gives that shrieking/clipping/static

as the guys have said .. external mic .. mounted in helmet ... play around with the position AND mic sensitivity settings a little to find your sweet spot.

oh and get/make some sort of foam/fluffy windsock for the mic if it doesnt come with one already!!! .. or even upgrade the sock depending on suitability

hey there thanks for the reply and yeah i have the drift official external mic although the windscreen is really terrible and small that could maybe be it i even had it tucked in my cheekpad but made no diffrence my sensitivity on the drift is at 3 bars might play about with all three things

hey thanks for the reply i have an external mic although it could be the sensitivity setting i'll play about with i will also have to make a windscreen i think (not sure how just yet though)

errr .. from reply to Cranky ... 3 bars?!?! on an external mike?.... yep that'll do it! .... 1 bar bro! thats about perfect for visor down and moving... if you need to go visor up PLUS an extended commentary while sitting still then maybe 2 bars...

Where do you have the external mic mounted? It took some testing with my Go-Pro + External mic before i was happy with it.

i had it mounted in my left cheekpad not so sure if the windscreen on the mic is good enough though

mmm - I have my external mic inside my cheeckpad and outside 130km + speeds its fine with the lid shut.

Not brand .... Type .... Ie - full face, flip face, open face, mx, modular .... ??

Make sure ure mic sensitivity is level to 1 and not 2 or 3, as 2 and 3 are too sensitive.

hey man i went for a ride again today and the bike noise was overpowering my voice like mad! i changed my mic sensitivity to 1 and its still behind my cheekpad but still my bike noise is just to loud any idea's?

Position then ... I ended up mounting a different mic with a flat clip , up on the brow piece of the helmet .. It's fine for visor down, fades pretty quick when visor goes up tho ...

And how noisy is your bike? ... Aftermarket loud exhaust mods? ... Usually has to be damn loud to get over the voice inside the helmet ..

With mic behind the cheek pads.... Not BEHIND and tucked right away ... Outside sound would transmit more I think .... Still gotta leave the mic head sticking out

ok .. full face helmet .. just to check ... like a road helmet?.. or one of those newer motorcross style jobs with a visor

it may not matter .. and i have not looked close at the chin bar of these style ones... but i know on my old dirtbike helmet that required goggles... the chin bar was extended somewhat and would let extra ambient noise in ..

even though you have a 125 dirtbike .. and they are noisier than some roadbikes... unless you have a significant air/noise gap in the helmet jaw/chin area id be surprised that enough engine noise found its way in to drown out your voice ...

strong airflow over the mic with a visor slightly open would be worse usually..

you want the stem of the mic held behind the cheekpad... the little foam head , or just the bare mic end sticking out like a nipple (ha ha i said nipple!! ) from the joint between cheekpad and edge of helmet .. these little basic microphones pick up pretty well , but will pick up the loudest local noise kinda thing...

so if your voice is muffled away by a thick cheek pad... but the shell of the helmet is making enough of a collector/resonator for the exhaust noise.. then thats what you going to get!....

you got any short test vids with the problem setup that you can give us a demo of the problem?
