Making A Review Video

I am wanting to make one and was going to do voice over. In doing my planning, I was wondering, should I film first, then record the voice based on how I edit the film, or should I do the voice first, edit it, and film based on what I say?

It's preference. But, I think it would be easier to record audio then cut visuals to it, assuming that you aren't recording audio during the review footage.

I was going to talk while I was filming, but more for mock up purposes. I was not going to use that audio, just for reference for what I wanted to be saying in that particular shot.

I've done several motorcycle racing game reviews on mine.

Initially I did it by recording at the same time as when I was filming. But you realize that you are splitting your concentration between presenting and talking, and your product will be subpar.

So i switched to writing out all the points I wanted to talk about, then record the audio separately, before filming the necessary portions and editing it over the script.

This makes your final product far more polished in the end. And not to mention easier to fix if you fuck up. Like I can refilm little bits of the fucked up parts, rather than film EVERYTHING all over again over a 1 second mistake.

If you feel better to have your audio scripted, then I think you should get your talking part done first, in as many takes as you need. Then you can shoot the product, close ups, etc, which you can insert while having the voice-over.

Depends on your style, I can't do scripted that well, I prefer the "live" take. You should try a couple of different methods and see which suit you the best.

My question is this:

How do you know what you're going to say BEFORE you test the bike? Or, have you already ridden it, etc? I don't see how you can review a bike before you have access to it.

You would be correct, IF I was reviewing a bike. But, unfortunately, im not. Its just a battery pack. I figured I would start small and see how it goes.

I have only reviewed bikes and then my mustang seat on my channel so it has all been done in real time on the fly. I have several years of live radio experience which might help but I still have a lot of work to do. If I where doing a voice over review I think I would do the speaking parts after. Make notes during the filming and script it after. That way you def have experience with the product. Just my opinion.
