If you're after a twin, i'd look at a Kawasaki ER-6F, i think they look great, at just under 6k theyre good value, and ive read plenty of good reviews about them, other than that I know a lot of people who love the sv650, and a few who love the 650GS. i'm aware I have no personal knowledge of these bikes because i'm still on a 125 myself so I wont be offended if nobody pays any attention to what I've just written!

All advice is appreciated thank you :)

Mandatory punt for a Yamaha XJ6 :D

Easy to ride, speedy enough and comfortable.

EDIT: Saw the Triumph Sprint ST mentioned. Not sure how well it restricts, but it makes a great tourer if you're by yourself according to my dad who had one for a couple of years. However, for a pillion it's really not all that good, especially if you open up that 1050 triple. Hell of an adrenaline rush though!

I've always found carrying a pillion is easier on a sports bike than a tourer. My passengers usually agree with me.

I don't know if thats just me though, because it sounds daft.

It would be impossible to carry a pillion and luggage though. At least reasonably.

Second punt for an xj6s :)

That's my baby, it does the job for light touring, anything more and you will want a bigger bike.

I'm 300lbs and the performance of the XJ6 is sufficient, but if you and your partner plus gear are much more than that i'd go with something that had more touring pedigree like a VFR or Sprint ST

Rockets have tonns of bike you can view, I was in there on Saturday. They have an old Fazer600 for £1250, was one of the instructors bikes but has now had an upgrade. When you go in, go right & it should be on your right again next to the window. :)
