Lets Talk Mic Placement!

If the cheek pad is snug and has no pocket in it, won't work. It's too dampened and your voice will be muffled as well as the motor/exhaust. The best bet is moving the mic to the front vent opening with some sound deadening around it. Dan turned me on to using old sponges, trim, slit, stuff, enjoy, works really well.

Whats up guys, so Im just curious about mic placement on your helmets? What works best for you on the type of helmet that you use. I have a ICON Armada and am trying to find the best mic placement. Tell me the best placement(better yet, let me see them)
I also have an icon armada. I put the mic right above the left vent next to the cheek pad. Seems to work out for me and does not catch to much wind noise with the visor up or down. I use the small wired mic that came with the Sena SMH-10 . Check out my videos if you want to hear the audio quality. Mind you that when I dual vlog the Sena records audio in a lower quality so a solo vlog may give you the best idea.

I have a Shoei RF-1200 & I placed my mic right on top my chin curtain inside the helmet. It has been working perfect for me at the time being.

I'm using a Scorpion EXO-400 and I'm getting great voice quality / minimal wind noise.. My bike's exhaust sounds great, but you can hear every single breath I take.. I have the microphone mounted behind the cheek pad. Anybody have any suggestions?

I suggest you leave it the hell alone! Sounds like it's perfect!!

Yeah, and the microphone is literally underneath the cheek pad. It's not sticking out at all.

That's how I have mine. In the cheek is plenty close enough to catch your voice in my opinion. These mics are generally too sensitive to have them out 'in the air'!!

I have mine under the cheek pad, but it's pressing against the shell. I'm going to try and get if off the shell to see if I can get better audio. Right now it sounds pretty muffled. But that could also just be my mumbling.

Ok I just routed mine inside the cheek pad so the mic is basically between the inside cloth and the pad right by the corner of my mouth. I'll test it out on the way home and see how it works.

I got a helmet where I can fully uncover my face - I now regret this decision, atleast for motovlogging.. I place it right next to my ear.. I put a deadcat in front of it and a big piece of sponge and on top of that my cheekpad is over it.. Still catches wind noises :(

Took it out for a test spin and the audio sounds much clearer. I was just listening on my phone through the GoPro app, so we will see how it sounds once I get it in the editor. Thanks for the tips!

I've just tried one place, the first I tried, and it's just perfect. I use an XR/RF-1000. The cheekpads have a "V" shape. Inside that V, just above the helmet strap, I place the mic and it sounds amazing. In relation to my face, the mic goes where my jaw joins my skull. You can hear it at my first and only motovlog ;). BTW, it was this easy thanks to all the info the motovloggers posted out there, so thanks!

Vs!

I'll have to try moving my mic there in my Shoei GT Air as I still get a little booming from the wind hitting my helmet. I'm sure riding a naked bike doesn't help at all with that either :p

Noise cancelling microphone covered with sponge, wrapped in ballon, placed in cheek pad or at front to the side of chin vent, covered with faux fur dead cat...all works really well at low speed upto about 50 ish MPH. But 69.9 mph or higher and the wind noise beats me every time....guess if you really need to say something that you want heard then slow down to say say it..... I think I may be being a bit unrealistic as I never see vloggers really trying to speak at HIGH speeds,,,trouble is most of my journeys involve it.

I find using the lapel clip to clip on to my chin/wind guard works okay. Not great, but it'll do. Plus I wrap the microphone with a bit of toilet paper and duct tape haha (I lost my wind sock)

mine is blu tacked in side me lid near my cheek pad it kept picking up my breathing so a taped a cotten wool pad round it to fix most of the wind noise
