Is This The Next Step In Vlogging Formats?

That could be true. The 3-D projection film craze has died down a bit. I have some friends and students who are woking in VR related projects. Given how expensive it will be out of the gate it may be slow in going anywhere. Still, the idea of shooting a vlog that can capture nearly everything around you sounds pretty cool.

I look at in a much simpler light.

Gamers aren't taking to it. The ones who are normally the first to take to new technology.

You have to remember it's been around for about 25 years now.

I'm all for improved technology but would rather have 4k at 60fps with superview and be able to watch it properly on a monitor than 5.2k at 30fps and all around view but a requirement to wear a headset to view it.

In one of the schools where I teach the Gamer and Interactive Program/Dept are doing a lot with VR projects. I think I'm excited because for once I may have a chance to get in on the ground floor with new tech. In the past it's been a game of catch up when standards switched from film (which I shot and used in college) to video and video to digital then SD to HD, and now on to 2K, 4K and 5.2K. I'm not expecting anything out affordable this year, but like my interest in aerial drone photography it's something I'll keep an eye on. It'd be nice not to be on the outside looking in.

Nah man, its like 3d, we all going to be using it in just a few months. you have to upgrade everything now..

DO IT DO IT DO IT

I think it's pretty neat. The video showed up just fine for me, I was able to look in all directions. The only use I would have for this, assuming it is practical, is a traffic cam. I think it would be nice to have 360* footage of an accident. I just can't help but imagine you'd look like a dorky Google streetview biker while wearing it though ;)

As far as vlogging, I'd rather the viewer only see what I'm seeing. It could possibly take away from a certain point I'm trying to make about something I'm seeing. Also, it might be too distracting from what I'm talking about. I certainly know I'd probably be panning all around instead of listening to the vlogger. Either way, it's cool technology :)

..... think it must have been a glitch my end as just watched it on a different PC and it let me move the camera. Looks really cool but would need higher fps to be useful at speed.... would still prefer a 60+ fps 4k camera with Superview currently though! :D

Exactly! This technology is not new, and yet it's been forecasted that the film industry would never adopt it in anything more than experimental numbers, hence it will never trickle down to the everyday user.

My fiance, a film student made it clear there is a good reason VR/360 tech isn't good for anything that is about delivering a story, because you cannot control how the viewer is viewing it, and hence the quality of the experience.

I have a 360 cam (Kodak SP360) and I think its really interesting to watch because you spot things you didn't see at the time. So it means you can watch more than once.
That's on a personal level. I don't know how it would appeal to vlog viewers.

The problems for me are the large file sizes and difficulty in editing. (Adding audio since no current camera has mic in)
just record with a voice recorder and edit it in! :-)
