Insurers + 33BHP Restriction.

At no point will I want to de-restrict my bike, as I am trying to build no claims for future bikes and for myself, I don't/ can't afford to mess insurers around and put myself in a position where my insurance can become invalid.

If you de-restrict your bike, and have 0 years NCB then your asking to be caught and for high premiums.

Sorry but it's people like you that make my Insurance so expensive.

19 Years old - 0 NCB.

1989 Honda CBR600F.
33 BHP restricted (( Cheekily being derestricted on friday though. tehe ))

It was about £400 TPFT but went up to like £550 when I told them about my 2 Claims 2 years ago. :P
I suggest you delete this , never tell people your illegal intentions on a public forum ... It's pretty silly to do so .

I wont name peeps. ^_^

Its a personal choice for personal reasons.

But credited, yes its a stupid thing to do and i wouldn't reccomend it to anyone.

I was not hating, i just wanted to make sure you know what happens if you get caught, I didn't want you to go through with this if you didn't know, just trying to look out for you!

Don't think anyone should derestrict there bike till they've got at least a years experience on the road.
To be honest, your bike is fast enough as it is. It does the speed limit (and then some), leave it at that.

I would never pay that much for insurance. Over my 4 years of riding i havent paid as much as that even with all 4 years worth added together.

You must be able to get it cheaper. Its robbery!

Also think about how easy your bike is to work on and pick up bits for. Is it really worth fully comp if you can fix it up yourself?

Exactly, otherwise you're basically paying for a new bike every few years on insurance costs alone... *gulp*

Yea your right, I've decided to go TPFT as you say it's easy to pick up parts but Lower Fairings are a pain in the butt to get hold of and I havent had a crash.

Haha Ducman very good, I must say I did laugh pretty loud when reading this.

I restricted my BMW R1100RS to 33hp because I still have 4 months left on the restricted licence, I just made a throttle stop out of wood and plastic. It had a few slots in it so I could adjust the position when I got to the dyno centre. The first run was at 19hp so I moved it up a slot and it came out at 31.8hp bingo! I then fixed the stop in position so it cannot move and got the printout so the insurance is fine.

It cost £484 TPF&T for a year and that includes 7000 miles of business use because my bike is my only transport so I need it for my business as well. I think the BMW is considered to be low risk despite it's capacity, for example a Yamaha R1 restricted to 33hp would cost me £3451 per year to insure on my current terms

I don't intend to remove the restrictor before it is legal, it's not worth the trouble. In normal riding I don't hit against the throttle stop anyway (it's at about 1/3 throttle), only when overtaking do I wish it wasn't there. Nevermind just 4 months to go! :)

Holy shit!

A 1100 Restricted?

Be careful when you derestrict it :O
Might be a little bit of an 'unexpected' power gain. =]

To be fair as you said, under normal riding it shouldnt matter at all =]

Haha yes it sounds crazy but I just used a throttle stop so all that means when riding is that I can only use up to 1/3 throttle.

This BMW engine only makes about 90hp when derestricted so it's actually a good bike to restrict. Unlike an R1 that makes 180hp and I can only assume would be unrideable when restricted to 33hp.

But... even when restricted to 33hp the R1100RS still makes 44ft/lb of torque at the back tyre so it's still fun to ride. :)

Good on you, my bike is 90ish desrestricted and to be honest until you hit the power band you dont really notice any change =]

I would never consider removing my restrictor until I'm off the restricted liscence. The GPZ still pulls enough to easily overtake, still had it up the 110ish before I eased off, and it only does 120 derestricted. With the restrictors in I don't feel like in even going to give it a bit to much throttle by accident and chuck myself down the road

I'd like to know what CB on his restricted YBR has to say about all this...

XD

What i have to say is, feel lucky you're allowed 33 bhp and don't have my family. That is all.

Look at the bright side, your not using any petrol at all when your peddeling.

The only way you get speed is downhill.

And even someone in a wheelchair or on a bike could beat it.
