In need of advice.

Hi guys, I'd like abit of advice to help me decide on something.

Here's the problem... Passed my module 1 a couple of weeks back and planning on having a lesson before booking my module 2. Sounds fair enough correct?

WELL! unfortunately winter is now upon us and I really want to get my test out of the way before the end of the year so I can get a new bike for the new year. So here's my question....'Do I wait till the new year and end of winter to do my module 2 or do I risk it now and hope I don't get bad weather for lesson and test and risk failing due to it?'

I hope your advice will help me with my decision. Many thanks guys.

If the weather is bad enough to affect your performance, they'll postpone it anyway. I say go for it.

Rushing and getting a new bike before end of year sounds like a bad idea.

You'll br learning on a bigger bike in the snow/ice and theres more of a chance of dropping it.

Yes, i know how you fell with regards to just getting it out of the way but surely you'd rather wait until the better weather is here and pass first time.

You would hate to fail because you took it in the winter when waiting a couple of months ?

I would do a lesson or 2and see how you feel, I know I didnt feel confident after my first lesson. I think my main concern with rushing into it just to get it over with rather than wait a month or so for better weather would be the cost of having to pay again if the worst happens and you dont pass (tests aint cheap...). However in terms of the weather, as said previously if its that bad it would get cancelled anyway.

I didn't take lessons, still got no minors practice makes perfect, IMO the longer you wait the larger your chance of success will be!

If you have not had any lessons for mod 2 I would play it safe until the new year, otherwise you risk wasting money. It's better not to have to worry about the weather (talking snow and ice) but rain should not put you off as IMO you need to be able to ride (if not better) in the rain than in dry conditions.

Having said that if you can do it in a block of 3 days (I did 2 days of lessons + test on third day) and weather is not calling for snow/ice I would go for it - so much better to get it over and done with rather than hanging over you.

It's really up to you depending how confident you already are / willing to take a risk with the weather.

From what I can gather from your mixed views I think I may do this.... Let me know what you think.
'Have a lesson this month, see how confident I am after the lesson, if I feel good, book a test and the only thing that will stop/postpone it is the weather. If I feel bad, then wait till the end of the bad weather and take as many lessons as I need until I'm ready for the test. I didn't take any lessons for mod 1 would it be worth the risk? Haha

Entirely up to you that one, The instructer wouldn't book you in if he/she feels the weather may change or there may be a chance of not being able to book it.

+ The longer you wait the more money you have, if you where to fail. (I'm sure you won't) & you could just pay for a Re-take?

Wait till the end of the bad weather and take as many lessons as I need until I'm ready for the test.

This is probbaly your best bet, Everyone who has passed their test knows it's boring to be waiting around. Now you wouldn't want to fail because you rushed into booking it and wanting to get it out of the way would you?

I didn't take any lessons for mod 1 would it be worth the risk? Haha

I took my Mod 1 on the 11th of May
I took my Mod 2 on the 13th of May

Total of £290.50. I rode to the test centre he gave me one of his bikes and said "I'll determain if you can pass or not, go do this, go do that." So I did, came back he goes "you'll pass no question about it."

So I went and passed both of them first time, no lessons, no advice on the day.

He told me my test is in this location at this time, We'll meet you there.

Now I was pooing it, I did 35 in a school zone, (Up hill) and because the instructer was cought up in traffic I got away with it. Now Thats not a good thing, but think about what could happen if the weather turned nasty.

(If you passed Mod 1 you'll pass Mod 2, If you ride on the road anyways its just you and your riding. Shoulder check everything and you'll be fine.)

If you feel you're ready then go for it, it the weather is too bad they will re-arrange for another day at no expense to you other than maybe having to pay for hire of the bike again, depends on your training school.
