Imovie Can't Handle 1080p @ 60fps. What Can...?

BEAST and WAR MACHINE... Perfect together.
I'm using iMovie for my editing. My new camera is capable of filming at 4k. But iMovie can't handle 1080p @ 60fps. I love it for how simple and easy it is. So... here's my question to fellow Mac users and other tech savvy folk.
What can... for free or cheap?

Wow, that's quite a shit. I used to use FCPX, but that's not free (not legally...). Do you "need" those 60fps? You always can switch to 30fps. Sorry I can't help!

Vs!

I use kdenlive on Linux. It's pretty awesome and can handle 1080p @ 60fps. Not sure if there's a mac equivalent, but I'd check it out if you can. It's free, too!

If you want proprietary, then FCPX and Premier are available for Mac, but "free" copies are not strictly kosher, not that it stops many people.

If you can use iMovie then FCPX is a pretty straightforward transition, and there are YT tutorials to help youbget going in it.

Great thread, glad you started it. I'm considering FCP as my editor. I have noticed that my videos come out at 1080p even though I'm recording at 60 FPS. I do cringe at the $299 price tag though. That puts me over the $1k in cost for my motovlogging if you consider camera and accessories on top of the editing software cost.

If you record 30FPS will it really affect your videos?

Remember the content is they key to your channel, adding 60fps smoothness is an extra for a viewer, not core.

Really? I'm 99% sure I shoot at 1080p @ 60fps on my GoPro and I edit all my stuff in iMovie.

iMovie will import 60fps, but won't (or didn't used to) export at 60fps, only 30, so check the properties of your render file.

Bollocks!!! You're right. Guess I'll switch back to recording at 30fps until I fork out for FXPro.

You can use the 60fps raw footage for improved slowmo stuff, so 1/4 speed will give you a passable 15fps rather than a very jerky 7.5fps.

You can't get many editing programs for free sadly buddy, but the best option is to go for an Adobe suite! Adobe is amazing for all things graphic and editing related I have used them for the past 3-4 years and I mean there is ways to get it for free legit! You just got to look

Looks like you are correct. :/

I recently switched to Premier Pro $20 a month isn't too bad and the transition was pretty smooth.

BeastRider, iMovie has now been updated to allow export at 60fps.
Looks like it will now also export at 4K, depending on your hardware.
