Idiots, Idiots and more Idiots

OI! complaining about a learner not wearing gear, but you were missing gloves and long sleeves alot of the time.

and squids, arent they the guys who cruise with little to no gear?

Yep, I do it on the odd occasion when I am riding locally.

Fair point but the difference being I 'occasionally' ride without gloves and jacket on local roads. Difference between the young guy in the video and I is that he was only wearing shorts and t-shirt. Also he is only riding with learner plates whereas I have about 30 years of riding experience with 22 of those years on roads amongst traffic.

He was typically squid in that he was underdressed, on a quick bike (I think it was a new Ninja), he lacked confidence (you can see how hesitant on his corners {some of it wasn't included on the video}) and then took off like a straight line racer when the road straightened out.

This is an accident waiting to happen.

I take your point about ATGATT however as a rider with significant experience both on Australian roads and extreme heavy traffic conditions of Japan, it's a risk that I feel comfortable in making when riding close distances from home.

That's a fair enough call phill.... But gloves please!! ... I don't think the asphalt will give a flying fuck about any amount of experience if you happen to grate your hand along it when you instinctively put your hand out to stop your body from smacking the ground??

Appreciate the call but answer is to not use the hands.

But I agree, I should always wear the gloves...

Sometimes it's just so hot and humid up here and if I'm rocking off to a meeting I don't want to smell like a truckie who eats too much roast chicken! LOL

(That's a joke you Ferker!)

Well if you can keep your mental composure and react quick enough to just roll onto your body?! ... But it's so much instinctive in a panic eh!!

I was crook in hospital (glandular fever ... A LOT) about 10 years ago..... This lad next to me had just come out of 5 weeks ICU and into normal ward .. Skin grafts on 80% of back , bottom side of his left arm, half his left jaw and whole of right palm .. Which was still not taking the graft very well.....

Have a vague guess what he was doing? ....

And he told me he was only going for petrol 2km from home... Had his riding jeans on already and his boots ...but a flannelette shirt plus helmet was it, too hot and sticky for other stuff?!?!?!

His doctor said the report was that he had slid 50m downhill , rolling and turning, open face helmet was split down the back (rider unconscious they think during slide, but I'm not commenting on helmets) ...

Rider didn't remember the drop or anything after the first corner from home, until he was in about day 5 of ICU ...

I didn't even road ride then... Only dirt bikes.... But when I was over my situ I went and got some basic body armour for the dirt!

Ok the lad in this case was a mess ... His bike apparently had minor scuffing on one side only...

I like my wide expanse of flabby skin!! And it's in just the right spots too.... Spreading it down the road is such a waste ;)
