I think the opposite. Better to just let him dick about where you can see him than have him follow you, ram into you or fuck around behind you.

Just road rage on both sides. I'd not put it to the police. Speeding is an absolute offence.

Not if your overtaking though, is it?

Examiners on your test will probably turn a blind eye but speeding in any situation is never legal.

Emergency vehicles excepted of course.

Theres no reason to overtake if the guy in front is doing the speed limit. You can overtake only within the speed limit. Otherwise everyone would just claim they were overtaking when they get caught speeding

I'm not sure about that... Technically the Highway Code says to overtake as quickly and safely as possible. If you have 1000hp per tonne then better to use that to ensure you're in the opposing lane for the shortest time possible, and then return to the posted limit.

I don't think most Police would pull you for that unless you kept the throttle pinned after the overtake. Then again, undoubtedly some would.

Surely if someone is doing 57mph in a 60mph i can overtake them, but i shouldn't have to do it at 59mph. That would just be dangerous.

That's when it becomes a judgement call. 2mph realistically? The needle on my ZX9R's speedo is wider than that! :)

Personally, if someone ahead is doing less than the speed limit (ANYTHING less), then when I see a safe opportunity to pass them I'll take it. If there's a Police car behind me then maybe I wouldn't unless they're doing around 10mph less than the limit and it's a very safe overtake. The Police trained riders I know always encourage you to 'make progress' through slower traffic - it's what we ride bikes for, when it comes down to it.

I think that judgement is something that only comes with experience. And I should also say that if I'm in ANY doubt about my footage then I won't put it on Youtube. (you might think differently seeing my vids! :P )

If you can be done by a camera for 33 in a 30, why would you be unsure about the legality of speeding when overtaking, even if it is at 2mph difference?

If you go wading into a police shop waggling camera footage where you broke the law to be an "enforcer", then complain about the road rage, which you then counter with more rage.

You're asking to either be shown the door or nicked.

I hate phone users while driving as much as the next guy but he reached 14mph (indicated) over the limit to overtake, probably made a non official hand signal to the driver (again pretty sure there is a law against that), then "cut up" the driver who is already distracted by his phone.

It's stupid, not saying I haven't done it, or wouldn't do it but I'd chalk it up as a life lesson and move on.

What happened next was the car driver raging but then chus overtook once more, made a derogatory and inflammatory hand signal. The driver then swerved into him.

It's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Yes the cager is a twat, but the biker started the whole rage thing by overtaking just to prove a point.

For my test I was told when overtaking go as fast as needed providing the overtake is safe. You just need to return to the speed limit after the manouver. So I ended up doing close to 80 on a dual carriageway on my test with no problem.

They EXPECT you to overtake (talking DAS here) instead of putting along behind a car doing the speed limit, at least that was my experience and instruction.

Bloke is talking a lot of sense, the second video is staying on my hard drive. I did see red when I overtook him and the lorry, I don't deny that and to be honest it could have killed me if I'd been a foot or two to the left.

As you say Bloke, it's being chalked up as a life lesson, once I've accidentally or otherwise pissed a driver off I'm staying well clear, but close enough to get their number plate ;)

For EXACTLY the reason why blatantly money-making 'safety cameras' are completely wrong!!!

Because Police Officers have a brain and can use it to decide if you were speeding and 15 kittens died because of it, or whether you rode to road conditions and everything was safe and sensible!

We're told to abide by speed limits which were brought in 40 years ago? My bike is 12 years old and I know the difference 10 years makes in tyres, suspension and brakes. These limits, even if applied to JUST technology are ridiculous - and we all should be aware that it's because the drivers/riders are -ing idiots that they still remain.

Speed doesn't kill - poor forward planning and MISUSE of speed mayyyyyyyyyyyy kill.... riders and drivers being -ing idiots definitely DO kill.

Paying attention to your surroundings is the real issue, and if everyone did that 100% of the time we'd all be perfectly ok to do whatever speed we saw fit for our surroundings and our ability. This will never happen.

Back to the topic at hand, I'd say just blur the speedo and post the video, To satisfy our interests :D

To be honest most people on bikes speed, I don't think i have met anybody who sticks to speed limits all the time, I was told on my bikesafe course (run by the police) that speeding is completely fine as long as its safe and not at insane speeds, they even encouraged it. I normally try to get as far away from cars as possible, even if that means overtaking and breaking the speed limit, if they are not near me they can't hurt me.

Don't worry mate i'd have likely done exactly the same thing (actually I know I've done exactly the same in the past) but yeah it's not police viewing material.

To the others raving about speed limits, that isn't the point. Whether you agree with them or not, they're there.

An overtake may only legally be performed while staying within the confines of the speed limit, go read the road traffic act and the highway code if you think otherwise.

Yes on your test and observed rides it's generally accepted that you drop 2 and cane it past the obstruction, but that doesn't make it legal.

In fact if you attempt an overtake within a gap that is too small to complete while remaining within the speed limit it could be said you were driving without due care.

glad to see nothing bad happened, I agree with the life lessons (having a few guys like this before) it is bad they feel they need to do it, I remember when I confronted a guy who did this and his excuse was he didn't like bikers, when I asked he said just because...

I hope you don't come across any other like this!
