I Leveled Up

I just upgraded to Final Cut Pro X from iMovie. Nothing about the workflow is really all that different, but does anyone have any tips or tricks about their workflow as it might pertain to motovlogs?

Not really, i just use YT tutorials for what I want to do.

Don't make copies of media in the import settings, makes the library unnecessarily huge, and I allow the background render to finish before export or switching off the mac.

I usually just import directly off my Drift. Is that a bad policy?

I copy the footage to a disk and import from there, as long as you don't mive the files, it'll reference them each time you open the library

Yeah don't do the media copy thing unless you have insane amounts of HDD space, I have a 1TB HDD I use as the primary media storage, I copy/transfer all media I have into that external HDD (because f*ck Apple and their stupid tiny storage option), render and export all to that external drive as well.

Nothing technical but trust me you want to check on those storage settings first otherwise you might be wondering why the heck it is telling you that you don't have enough space to export your video.

Had to dig around for all those copied media and thrash them out too, real space killer.

Only drawback is that if your FCPX crashes or you accidentally deleted an event, some of it is most likely not saved or gone forever till eternity.

Enjoy your FCPX!

never go straight from camera to editing software. Waaaay to much can go wrong (Cable unplugged, camera gets bumped etc)

I open the clip from the camera with quick time.
cut the bits i want out of it.
save that into a file for each movie.
then open that file in Final cut.

After I have edited 4-5 movies I move them to my external HDD.
I do however keep a folder just for intros outro and overlays.

I guess I just got in the habit by using iMovie. Seemed the easiest method. I wasn't sure it could go wrong though, since the files still stay on the camera until I delete them after the import. I guess in the case of a serious enough crash the files on the camera could be corrupted?
