How to use external mic with gopro and keep it watertight.

Hey guys, I made this the other day and thought some of you might like it plus it should hopefully help people just starting out :)

You made your hole a lot cleaner than I did haha. I just took a hand drill to the case and went with it.

Haha that works too :)
I was actually surprised how well it came up and it actually looks better in real life as well.
How was the tutorial? I'm quite worried that I rambled on for far too long :(

Haha, no the tutorial was good I just usually don't have the patience to make stuff nice like that :)

I also forgot to plug my lens hole when I did this and ended up with plastic dust in the corners of the lens!

You can't see it on any footage but it annoys me :p

Haha yeah it's an easy mistake to make. I just got my air compressor and blew them all out easy as :)

Good video mate.... so how has it been...have you had it out in the rain to test if it does stay dry/moisture free....?

Not yet but with blutac around the cable and onto the case I'm very confident it would be water resistant if not dunk proof :)
Here's a tip, put the blutack on edges of the USB cable before plugging it into the camera, it's definitely dunk proof (note: I'm not liable if you wreck your GoPro!) if you do it like that.

I am definately going to give this a go tomorrow.... even if its not waterproof, by following how you have done it and kept the hole nice and tight to the mic rubber, it should certainly be enough to keep the rain out...which is all i really need anyway.

as the go pro is on my helmet, if it gets submerged in water then i've got bigger problems on my hands :)

Thanks again for the vid and showing what is possible...

Yep that's what I do.

Here is how it normally rests:

And here is how it is when plugged in:

That's way more than you need and doesn't form a great seal.

You have a tiny strip around where it connects, and it squished the hole.

Perfect seal every time.

Your welcome :)
Yeah because the rubber bit fits so snug I think that would easily be splash proof on it's own, but since I live live in New Zealand I figured the blutac is a good backup :)

How do you mean?
Squish the blutac into the hole that the mini usb plugs into?
The hole I drilled for it is a perfect snug fit and there's nowhere to squish blutac into.
The reason I have so much blutac is to stop water getting anywhere near the hole in the first place.
