How To Talk Like A Pro Motovlogger.

After doing my first vlog I realised how hard it can be. For my next vlog I'm going to pre plan the subject. If I left in all my 'umm's my vlog would have been twice as long lol.

You will get better with the umms the more you do. I took about 3vlogs where I really focused on not saying it before it worked it self out. Not only does it sound better but from an editing perspective its less work to edit out. I was just looking at my first vlogs yesterday, and wow what a difference between then and now.

The other thing is getting rid of words like 'umm' and 'uhh' (filler words).
Yea - agreed.
My first pass in editing is a rough cut removing most of the gaps and some of the filler words (the fastest bit the whole thing).
The second pass removes the remaining 'umm's and all the coughs and sniffles. Christ I sniffle a lot when riding (it is cold here to be fair)

Someone further down suggested practise talking all the time when riding.

When there's no camera I'm almost completely silent.
100% present. No distractions. Feeling the bike move over the road and watching the white lines gently sweep under me ..... happy :)

Me too. When the camera is off I'm Zen-like. Don't even shout at cagers when they do the silly things that cagers do.

But when the camera is on I'm like a burst hosepipe. Spouting forth to the world a mere 3hrs of editing time away...

I am as vocal with as I am without the camera. My vlogs are in car, and I have 2 cameras so I tend to switch between views. It seems like a seamless drive, but it isn't. Usually when I switch it's because I had to edit something out. Next vlog I won't have that luxury though, far too much shit happened so it'll be jump cuts galore in that one. I might scrub the entire thing and do it again. I have done that in the past when I really didn't make any sense.

Still being very, very new to this I find as soon as I press record on my camera - I get stage fright. Other times I have just 'practiced' talking about something with the camera off and haven't had a problem aka I talk normally about a subject. I just need to be aware of not rambling too much. Once I think I'm up to motovlogging standard I'll press record and start talking - hopefully I get used to a camera rolling and the stage fright buggers off.

I started off just talking to myself on rides where I wasn't even recording, as it felt quite unnatural to do. After I think I got the hang of it, I just wrote down a few ideas of topics I though I would be interested in hearing from other moto vloggers and picked one when I went out. I haven't published all that I recorded, but it gives you good practices and inspiration to keep your thoughts flowing.

That's what I'm working on - talking while recording - until sounds natural. Had some practice this evening. I walked out of a relatives place I'd been visiting to jump on my bike and it was surrounded by cops and ambo's. Turned out there had been a pedestrian accident right next to my bike. Once I was able to leave I quickly recorded myself explaining the situation and felt as tho I was starting to get the hand of talking while recording and riding naturally. Practice makes perfect.

In my opinion, I dont try to be like other, its usless, talk how you talk, be you. No sense action out a movie role, ya know. I'd rather be me, then some fake image.

I just sing "let it go"

Thanks to my daughter I now know that bloody song line for line.....

I used to be zen like!

Yeah you raise a good point. I did it that way on my recent road trip of which I just posted a video (in the watch vlogs section) of random observations I made. Most of these clips I didn't have anything of worth to say or I didn't need to talk so I just recorded. Other clips yeah I just press record and spoke my mind e.g the jaywalking pedestrian.

I think what I was trying to get across though is more experienced motovloggers appear to be able to press record and just speak their mind on what ever subject they intend to and keep their viewers hooked. I hope to be able to do this one day.

On my roadtrip aswel I did practice (with no notes or much rehearsal) pressing record and speaking about a topic for close to ten minutes. I did it 4-5 times and on my last one I was able to talk like a semi pro motovlogger and deliver a half decent rant on motoring topic.

I usually turn on my camera as soon as I start riding which has the pleasant side effect of getting footage for me daily observations videos.

In my head I always have prepared one or two topics I want to talk about and when I feel ready to talk, I start vlogging. Nevertheless I have to cut a lot, because I've the habit of redoing a sentence when I had a hanger or I made a mistake in the English language (if I'm noticing it :D )

I remember someone telling me once that the best radio talk show hosts are the ones who sound like they are not talking to a million people, but rather like they are talking to one person a million times.

yeah that's something i got to work on but its hard when i just go with the flow i don't even know what I'm going to talk about when i vlog i just try and talk about the situation or what i see there and then...i notice is i say "sooo" alot haha
