How many of you use a GPS overlay in your videos?

Hello, I've been toying with using a GPS overlay on my videos and/or using the GPS data for on screen clocks.
I'm just wondering how many of people here actually do that? and what software do you use.

So far I've found 2 different programs: Dashware, looks pretty decent but not free; and CycleCam, an in-development java program (more for bicycles then motorcycles) which is basic but free. I'm giving cycle cam a whirl now. Will keep you informed.

I'm mainly interested in it for having a speedo up when I want one. Otherwise Contour's Storyteller does the trick.

A mate has (my ebay find!! Grrr) on his bike, FULL race-cam (x4cameras), GPS overlay and plug-in Mic.
As i said 'I found it', he took a look at it for me, and bought it behind my back (RRP$1500+, ebay $450!!)
Still dark for missing it.

Its a great idea, but i wouldnt have the overlay on, unless it was an accident/insurance claim/Traffic offence, as i dont want it easier for the Police trolling YT to see what speeds im doing 'over' the limit.
Even if your 2kph over or more in Aus., the Police will still book for that...
> : )

Yeah, good reasons. I've not had a speeding fine on the bike yet (after 6 years of riding), I'm either a very good boy or very lucky.
I was just wondering as I've now noticed my speedo is on the very generous side. ie. Speedo says 80km/h, GPS says 58km/h. Well, I guess it's back to the parts shop for me.

mmmm yeah .. 22km out might be a tad overdoing it!!! ... what gps and what conditions though? ... city/hills/corners or suburbs/countryside/steady cruising?? .. the former in certain circumstances can play merry hell with accuracy for a gps

The 'GPS' is a Contour+2 and it was just a ride I did the other day to see how far out my speedo was when a friend I was riding with commented I was going really slow. Personally I think it's just my speedo is on the way out.

But that's going off topic. I was just wondering if anyone here used their gps function with their films. Seems most people don't.

Ahh ok.... No idea of the accuracy of those.... Probably not too far out.... But jamming gps gear into that space? With camera bits as well!? ... Could be 'some questionable variance' ... ;)

Another guy on a car forum used to use something like this for his Nurburgring days. It was cool because you could see his improvements as his driving got better but I couldn't see the use for something like that outside of track days

I would like to do what you want to learn xD. but i ve never really read up on it. might be interesting when touring

I was thinking the same thing but I wouldn't want people to track everything. With a bike stolen in the passed I would be extra careful about doing that. Now if your doing a track day that's a different story.

Dashware seems to be the only option

I know what you mean about the whole tracking thing. I have been using a little project program called CamCycles. It's mostly for bicycles but with a little fiddling I've gotten it to work all right. I mostly have it display a speedo, altitude, and compass bearing, which is what I pull from my camera's gps.
It's a little trivial, but I like it, especially when I am going off road stuff.
