How long does it take you to upload a vid?

Undead MV

If there is light, there shall be dark
Well, I know that it depends on my local internet provider, but i´d like to know what´s the average size of your videos in MB( or GB) and how long does it take you to upload them, Yesterday i Uploaded a 2.6 GB vid and it took almost 3 hours to get uploaded. I supposed that my 20 Mb/s internet connection is acceptable for residential purposes (and is the faster i can afford by now)

Thank you in advance buds

your 20Mb/s is that upload or download as in the UK they are generally very different....

This is just my general surfing internet speed, I have a faster connection on my media PC:

Wow! that´s what surfing feels like!

I have a rowing boat with a broken oar o_O

Download 23 Mb/s
Upload 6 Mb/s

You gonna be screwed with net-neutrality going out the windows then! Can you not get better? I thought the USA had mega internet???
I think the US never had mega internet, at least not without paying through the roof for it, as far as my American relatives reactions are when the topic of internet speeds are brought up.

Why is your output file so big? Generally my ~8min videos are around the 1 - 1.2 GB mark, with 1080p60 at 30mb CBR.

6MB upload is slow, but your file is pretty big. Use Handbrake (it’s free) to compress it into a reasonable h.264 file.

Whar program are you using to create your final file? And what are your settings? Maxing out your settings will create huge files and isn't always necessary as youtube, vimeo, facebook, and most other video sharing networks limit playback for streaming so the highest settings for your output file aren't always worth it.

I know YouTube caps the bitrate for 1080 at 12000, would you say it is better to render at 12000 or to divide the actual bitrate recorded by a certain amount to be under 12000, eg if you record at 44000 and rendered at 12000 it wouldn't compress it as nicely as if you divided the 44000 by 4 and rendered it at 11000?

I think you need to check your video output settings. I see that your latest video is only 720p resolution. 2.6 GB for an 8 min 720p video does not sound right.

For the best compressed video output, your rendered video should be in MP4 format. Also, MP4 is the standard video format. Should be supported in literally anything.

I render out at full resolution and full bitrate, then compress from there. Thats been my stand for 20 years in the video production business.

whenever I do that I get awful compression from YouTube. The videos look much better before I put them on YouTube but after it goes very blocky on things with lots of detail like leaves or the road surface closest to me

My internet becomes uncapped at night, so I just schedule an upload at midnight. Boom! wake up in the morning and its there. But it takes forever, I have slow upload speeds.

Actually I don´t know my current setup for the output file (im at work), i generally choose the % quality and normally is in 60%, so that the output file size is around 400 and 700 MB, but the last time i choose 83% and the file sized 2.5 GB!!!

I use Sony Vegas and Camtasia studio ramdomly, the last vid was created with Camtasia, I think the next time ill choose 60% of quality, Im at work so i can´t see my setup

I know that feeling, i had to do that with my previus internet provider (Telmex)
Download: 9 Mb
Upload: 1.2 Mb

I can't complain about upload speeds. My contract states I get 20/20 speed, but notes on invoices claim, loyalty program increased my speed to 30/30, at the same price. Never tested it, so I can't know for sure. But, I upload 1,5 gig video, on the average, and it takes more time for youtube to process it, than it takes to upload. Never timed it exactly, but we are speaking about few minutes.
