How Do You Like You Sena Backpack For Audio??

As you know I have been struggling with wind noise and I just recently took my first phone call on my sena going 50mph and the caller said it sounded completely normal, no wind!

I was thinking about getting the backpack since I don't have to tools to splice that mic into my wired gopro set up.

What do you think!? I hear it sounds a bit distorted sometimes through the backpack.

Thanks!

I know that @kryten uses the backpack for his videos. I believe he said that it cuts out too much engine noise for his liking so he blends it with the audio from his second camera. Listen to his stuff and see if it works.

We did a dual vlog recently and it was in low-fi mode. That sounded a bit flat, but the standard hi-fi audio sounds pretty good to me.

I had too much wind noise in my helmet. Couldn't get rid of it no matter what I tried so for now I've been recording from my Sena 20S. I don't use the backpack, I use the Easy Voice Recorder Pro app on my phone (works via bluetooth). I agree it cuts engine noise. My sound is flat as well but until I change my helmet I'll use this method. It's easy, I don't have a mic cord in my helmet and no wind noise at all.

Isn't the other problem with the backpack that when using it you can't use any of the other sena features? Eg music and intercom?

I think it's just too much bulk for me. It adds a lot especially with the case. I recently upgraded to an Olympus lapel mic, can't remember the model, with noise reduction and it's worked out perfect.

You can eliminate wind with better mic placement or a windsock. I place my my inside of the cheek pad nearest to my mouth. Audio sounds fine at highway speeds this way. That being said the sena method is good but to me sounds too quiet as you lose almost all background noise so it sounds more like a voice over and as a viewer I cannot stand that. Plus for me that is just another battery to worry about keeping charged.

I've been trying to figure out how to get the voice from other people with a Sena into my GoPro recording before I buy a Sena

One way is to use the backpack because it will record all communication. Another way is to place the mic from your camera close enough to the sena speaker that it records. You can also use a splitter and run 2 mics in your helmet one for your voice or normal vlogging and the other close to the sena speaker to record chats.

I have a hero 2 so the backpack won't work. I've thought about putting 1 speaker next to the mic. I've also thought about a splitter to run the mic that I normally use in one hole and the output from the Sena in another but not sure if I could still hear.

The Sena backpack is good if you want to use a GoPro and you want to record in all weather conditions. I don't have to cut a whole in the case and try to waterproof it. One area where the Sena sucks is it cuts out all ambient noise. You just hear your voice. That's great for phone conversations but it makes motovlogs seem a bit flat. I hated the way my motovlogs sound with the Sena. To "fix" the problem I use a Go Pro Session and mix the audio. My most recent videos use this method if anyone wants to check them out.

It was a pain in the ass to mix the audio until I learned a bit more about syncing and using multiple cameras with Final Cut Pro. If anyone else is using Final Cut and needs help let me know. I'm not sure about other editors but it shouldn't be much different.

I just ordered a sena 20s as well as the backpack. I'm really looking forward to this setup. I've been running 2 cameras lately, a gopro3 and 3+. I'm planning on putting the backpack on the camera on the handlebars where I can use the bike 12v to keep it powered. This will also allow me to put the camera on my helmet back in a full case. And protecting it from all the flying bugs as well at water and dust. I'll report back once I get a chance to use it.

I have never liked that setup until this past week when I went on a 3 day group ride and spent 80% of that in the rain. Would have been nice to be able to film vlogs still without having to worry about the camera getting wet. However, my secondary cam the Drift Ghost seemed to do just fine in the rainy conditions even with the mic plugged in no water got into it.

I have the 20S and the backpack. Love it for conveinience but it has also failed on me a few times. With a loud exhaust I like it as it's a good balance with the vocal and SFX levels, but most people don't like how much background noise it cuts out. I've too been on phone calls and people are surprised when I saw I'm on the bike.
