How can you tell when your camera is running?

Or to put it better, what's the best camera to switch on and off at high speed whilst strapped to your lid?

On a recent trip to mainland Europe I decided it was unreasonable to film constantly thus I filmed on the go as and when I saw fit. However slowing to 80mph on an autobahn and trying to switch a driftHDstealth :?: on, which is on top of my head is hard work. Sometimes I would be lucky and it would film, other times it would be sat on green, ready to record.

So except for stopping (not always possible) or slowing down so I can hear the beep (not always possible) are there any set ups that allow on the fly filming with positive ways of telling if you're filming or not?

Cheers guys.

This has long been a complaint of mine about the Drift HD. Maybe if enough people complain Drift will release a firmware update that makes the beep louder. Of course judging from past experiences with Drift, that update will probably break something else.

Contour Roam. Can clearly feel the switch that turns it on and starts filming in one smooth movement 8-)

There's a LED you can buy on a wire for the Drift HD that shows if you're filming or not.

According to the website it doesn't work with the Drift HD 170 Stealth, albeit it's not listed in the accessories.

I just start recording when I'm sat still like traffic lights etc so I can hear the noise, and then just edit out any extras

It's only for the HD I'm afraid. If you've got the spare cash though I can heartily recommend the HD; coupled with the official mic it sounds far better than the HD170.

I'd like to upgrade to the HD but I've heard so many horror stories I'm afraid to. I'm a little relieved to hear someone recommend it. I've been very happy with my HD170 stealth.

Easy,
I know the camera is recording because I've completely forgotten what I was going to talk about and lose the ability to string words in to sentences and sentences in to complete thoughts.
If I can still speak english and not sound like I'm drunk off my ass then the camera must not be working.

YMMV

Yeahh, that sounds familiar :P

I have the Drift 1080 HD and the external Mic. Highly recommended. The recording is spot on and the Mic is superb. The only issue a lot of people have inc myself its when you use the mic inside your helmet, it can be a pic working out the best place to put it. You'll have to work that one out yourself.

You'll have the same issue running the cam on and off tho as the csm set up is the same to set the recording going but you do have the option as already mentioned to fit the external LED might to see when you are recording.

Hope this helps.
