im using cyberlink power director 8 just now,

the hedge trimming video i uploaded was all shot in 720p at 60fps, but when i uploaded it to youtube its didnt go as 720p hd, just 480

have i done something wrong, does my editing software not do hd or am i just crap lol

No, all done and finished, been live on youtube for 2 days now, im not sure what format to save the edited video in though

the video was pieced together with a few 720p hd clips, some 5mp pictures added and a good quality sound track.

YouTube only supports 30fps, so you might want to think twice about shooting in 60fps unless you are going to slow the video down to 0.5x slow motion.

60fps HD video also uses a massive amount of memory, and 30fps is still a good frame rate, even 24fps is still acceptably smooth.

Ideally you should save it in the same file format that the camera records in. I believe the Drift HD records in .mov so you might want to use that format.

However, YouTube uses MP4 format so that is theoretically a good one to use. Sadly though CyberLink PowerDirector 8 doesn't have a MP4 format for 720p HD (it only has them for 480p and 1080p). This is really annoying and I can't believe CyberLink left it out, perhaps to save money.

If all else fails then a good safe bet is .wmv which has a 720p HD format, and it is good enough quality for YouTube. To use that format you can select ".WMV" on the 'Produce' page and then select "Windows Media 9 HD Standard Quality".

I'm currently using PD 10 with .mov and mpeg formats from my two main cams and it auto converts for YT without prompt. I upload in 720 selectively only because it doesn't take as long. If I recall, with PD 8, besides the auto convert it also let me select ratio and HD format on the tag/description page before starting the upload. Easy to miss as it's a drop down tool. Dave's got you covered though just my thought's 8-)

I used to use Power Director back when I ran windows... if I recall correctly you had to set up the project settings correctly to 1280x720 when you first create the project. Then ,when you add in videos it will maintain that format. Once I got the process down I never had any issues uploading into YT.
