Has motovlogging changed?

I think that motovlogging has started to bring some silly folk out of the closet such as... Look at how I wheelie, speed, do generic illegal stuff.

The problem is, young uns see it. At 16 they go out buy a 50cc, try same tepid stuff, become a danger to themselves. They then go do their test, try same stupid stuff, end up hurting themselves or others, all for a few YouTube views.

That's what I dislike about the current amount of vloggers.

The next thing that happens is that we bikers who want to become vloggers, concentrate more on the blogging than they do on the road, not building up enough experience before hand. Become a danger again.

I've done two proper motovlogs, one on a bike, one in a car. The bike vlog was dubbed... Ie I recorded my voice afterwards. I know some will see this as a cheats way, however, I did that for several reasons. 1. I had about 4 months riding experience at the time. 2. I was testing to see if anybody picked up on it... They haven't done to date. 3. It was a test ride, so the bike was too new to be doing some clogging on it. I needed to concentrate on getting used to the bike first.

The car one I did, wasn't dubbed. I have over 10yrs of driving experience. Enough said.

Most of my videos have been studio based reviews and how to vids. For many reasons including - I can do the studio stuff with my eyes closed, I'm waiting to get another bike and also that I like doing them.

I agree. Lots of folks riding very dangerously on vlogs; which is good entertainment for some but it's definitely disheartening. If you wanna do it on a track or a closed course (or at LEAST, at LEAST somewhere less populated, but don't come crying to me when you get caught), then go for it. But these guys are in rush hour traffic in urban centers doing wheelies between cars and crap. Do they realize they are putting their lives in the hands of strangers in cars they don't know? If those strangers don't behave exactly as they expect, they'll be in some serious pain..

I think another issue.. is gear!

...dun dun duuunnn!!

No seriously. I'm ATGATT, but, I see it a lot. These sportbike riders look around online, hear awesome stories about a guy biting the pavement at 110 and walking away without a scratch, and thinks now he's invincible. Doesn't realize that luck was as much a part of the gear in that 110mph get off, and gear and even the best helmets are really only going to protect you at much lower speeds.

Anyway; back to the OP's question. New to motovlogging too but, there are definitely a lot of new riders. Bikes are flying off the shelves. I don't think it's gas money, I think it's the recession and poor economy and folks are replacing their vacation with a bike. Years ago they might take two weeks with the family and fly somewhere or even just drive somewhere cool, but now they can't afford it. Incomes are down, travel expenses are going up, etc. So, they don't have enough to go on a big vacation, but because they cut the vacations out they DO have a little extra cash, so they buy a bike! Some do buy a bike to save money but I don't think they realize.. they won't. Tires, maintenance, etc., will eat into the small savings you got on fuel!

Of course it has changed.. It has to "evolve" and grow.. The debate is whether the change is positive or negative.. I'd say both...

Positive because there are so many new personalities and talents... Negative because some of the really great ones out there are fading away... For me, I have contemplated stepping away quite a few times.. Its a good amount of work and i think I'm running out of things to say.. Lol. But making new friendships and riding connections, enjoying other vlogger's work.. That keeps me going....

I don't like all motorcycle videos, and not all of them are Motovloggers IMO.. (Although there ar several different types of vloggers) but creativity and voice are the common ground to everyone. If you don't like them, don't subscribe... Easy as that I guess.

I forgot to add that some need to realise that many are bikers and vloggers as they enjoy the ride and don't mind talking to themselves.

I got into biking as I was kinda bought up around my dads bikes (I now realise they were 125s as my dad is halfway through doing his test) and also my brother rang me one day to say he was doing his test. I tried it, I liked riding, I stuck with it until recent events with a car, but I will be back.

The clogging side for me came as I've always been into my gadgets, purchased a helmet cam. I've studied acting and am not shy I front of a camera. Plus I'm into photography.

So that's how I got into it.., not because I saw some cool guy doing a wheelie or because I saw the baron chatting generic blah blah, I got into it because I could :)

CBB, your video says that there are more vloggers, but you dont mention any other "change". Do you mean that the type/style of motovlog has changed? What sort of answers are you expecting?
For 10 years i made videos and put music to them. I never once thought that i should put a voice to it. Since I discovered this community, Im wondering how I didnt think of it. Its wonderful, and i think the best part is that almost every motovlogger I watch has a completely different style.

The question was intended to be a general one

Yes... but I want to hear YOUR thoughts. Do you think it has changed other than numbers?
