OK, so I bought a GoPro HD Hero 2 at Christmas and tried to set myself up for a vlog last night, but noticed something was missing... The Hero 2 does have an external mic input BUT when you have the camera inside the plastic case which has the bits to attach to the mounts there is not nearly enough space between the camera and the case for a typical mic cable to fit into... I'm kinda lost how you can use this combined with the secure case. Anyone have one and any solution?

Cheers,
Yarek.

You need to purchase the "skeleton" housing, it has proper cut-outs to access the ports. The best deal I found was @ B&H Photo.com. Or you could drill a hole into the waterproof housing, but that defeats it's purpose.

What mic do you have? I have 2 different ones, have not tried either yet (got a litle helmet bracket project going ;) ). One is an AudioTechnia mic with it's own battery and the other is from pointofview cameras (no battery).

a vice, 3mm drill bit & duck tape. all you need to make a port for your jack :)

I considered this, but what if I want to go scuba diving??? Ok, I haven't been Scuba diving for 13 years, but still

You buy a new case ? or you can shell out for a skeleton case.

Standard cases are cheaper so you could have one waterproof & one not, but I wouldn't buy it unless you know you where going scuba diving so in the meantime you can save?

I'd probably drill a hole in it and run the mic wire through and then silicon it to seal it up. Beats buying a whole new case just for a mic hole.

There are several advantages to having the skeleton case.

1. Quick access to the SD card
2. Access to the charging port
3. Access to the mic
4. Access to the video-out port
5. Better cooling during hot weather

Opening/closing the outer case all the time will limit the hinge life, it's tight. The skeleton case can be found for the same price as the regular water-proof case.

If you've got the funds (by looking at what bike you're picking up, I'd assume so), just pick up a skeleton case as well. This will also help with resale in the future if you decide to sell your camera.

Be careful on that beautiful new machine, and pick up some frame sliders!!
