Hi guys, I know that some of you have probably done this already to your GoPro casing in order to get an external microphone plugged in to the camera while keeping it safe from the elements. But I thought it would be good for others to see how it was done.

So when I replaced my broken Drift and bought my GoPro last week and then got the microphone for it, I set about modifying (destroying) the case and filmed the results which are below. Hope some motovloggers find it helpful! :D

That's a handy video, nicely explains what you would have to do if you wanted an external mic. Shame that GoPro didn't think about people wanting to use external microphones though isn't it!

Also, watch out for the blue tack thing, it isn't very waterproof and will only withstand a very small amount of water. Even less if it's cold.

Glad you liked the video. It would be really great if GoPro and Drift would combine the good qualities of both their cameras into the one device. It would be the perfect camera then. I have ridden in some really heavy rain over the last week on my 2700 kilometre trip and the blu tac has managed to keep the moisture out really well. I have been checking this as I was not sure whether it would let any through or not.

Looks like you did a much better job than I... My waterproof case ended up looking like someone attacked it with a hammer

In regards to Blu Tak - good idea. Although I recorded one of my videos in heavy rain and after a whole day recording and riding I only had a couple of drops get through to the camera (nothing to be worried about) so each to their own.

HaHa! I took my time with mine and was very careful!

The Blu Tak works well. I have ridden in some pretty heavy rains over the last week on my road trip. Not a single drop got in and the Blu Tak comes off really easily and can be reshaped back on easily too. :D
