I just got my GoPro hero today and I was just testing the quality at 1080x60fps and found the quality of the video isnt as great as most GoPro Hero 3+ videos on youtube at the same resolution so I inspected the memory card capability and they are read speeds up to 50mbps and write speeds of up to 20mbps and I read this statement of the back of the packaging

"Data may vary by camera settings and camera manufacturer. Video compression: MPEG-4 H264 30fps and 15fps for 4K"

Link to show the memory card I am speaking about.

So am I right in thinking the memory card isnt compatible at 60fps as I bought this as a bundle so assumed it was compatible as I also checked the GoPro Official Website to see what memory was recommended and it stated any Class 10 memory card which this one actually is or is there further settings within the gopro to set to improve the quality....

I appreciate any advice thanks

Funnily enough, I've been discussing this with GoPro. While they won't go as far as saying PNY (owned by HP I think) are rubbish, they will admit that "some users" have had issues with these cards in GoPro cameras.

It's hard to find hard and fast information but I believe @PCX found some recommend brands, first was Sandisk and second was Lexar.

Next thing you need to find is the maximum bitrate your camera will record at, do your own research, but I belive for the 4 black it's 45mbps. If you look to Drift, the Ghost S hardware can deal with 60mbps, so based on what circumstantial evidence I've seen, get a decent branded card that can take at least 45mbps, but certainly find out for yourself.

As a UK resident, you could take the retailer up in this as under the Sale Of Goods Act 1974, goods have to be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. As you (almost certainly) need a bit rate of over 20mbps, it's not fit for purpose. Thus, you can demand it be put right or return it to them, but you'll need to check the exact conditions, and need the exact information, preferably from GoPro before you do.

You can enail GoPro via the support section in their website.

PNY is sh**, get a Sandisk or Samsung class 10.

Also don't buy the cheaper one from eBay because they can be fake or lower class then advertised and GoPro only working with class 10.

Yes Lurch the memory card I thought was the issue even though I am not used to the set up of motovlogging I am gadget knowledgeable hence why I was alarmed as soon as I got the hardware yesterday and instantly noticed a mismatch hence why I asked the community for advice but I am not sure if Curry's will exchange it since I opened the package ! but in reality Curry's should be held responsible to some degree because they are obviously selling combo's of harware that dont agree with each other !!!!!

It will be hard to argue that PNY as a brand is unsuitable unless it's in print on GoPro's or Curry's website (although Curry's only seen to sell PNY), but you can have them yo rights on the speed compatibility. PNY do an "Ultra" that fits the specifications IIRC. I got a Sandisk 64GB 60mbps SDXC from Amazon (themselves not a 3rd party seller) for £33/£34 if you want the link. I'm not in a partner or referrer scheme by the way.

You need to remember that the card's performance is in MB (Megabyte) and the video bitrate is in Mb (Megabit).

Your card has a minimum performance rating of 10MB, which is 80Mb and easily surpasses the 50Mb requirement of the camera.

If your card isn't quick enough to sustain the write rate the GoPro won't lower the quality and your video will just drop out completely.

Well what is happening is that the quality at 1080px60fps is great but it jumps and isn't stable but if I change to 30fps its ok but I want the 60fps which I feel the card can't cope with it must be the only reason is the card

GoPro has Recommended cards that they support and are the best option for the camera, I have a Hero 3+ Black and always shoot in 1080@60.

Ah yes, definitely a duff card. That's what I was getting when I used a card that couldn't sustain the 50Mbps requirement of my GoPro.

Anyhow I am going back to currys to exchange for better card but they only do PNY cards i will pay the difference for the card but I am not sure if I'm going to stick with it after my bike is on road I might purchase a second card like the Sandisk cause I'm using gopro in my car aswell and I do get stared at as the gopro is so noticeable pmsl

Currys do the "Elite" PNY which have a better data rate. But as I mentioned, GoPro have stated that they have had a number of users with issues with PNY.

It's probably a case of that any suitably fast card is OK in any camera, it's just there may not be the strict quality control, consistency and testing given from the non-brand manufacturers.

The rule of thumb is, you generally get what you pay for.

Yea well at the time of purchasing I assumed cause it was bundle the electronic store would know if the pair was matched... I'm gonna ask for full refund on the card and try and get the sandisk I know a local store that does them at a fair price !

I just bought a Sandisk 64GB SDXC Ultra premium version (red and gold, forgotten the exact name) for £33. I've got to head out now, and as I mentioned earlier, I can post the link later if you like.

Here you are - there's a delectable 32GB and 64GB option at the bottom. £25 for 32GB and £36 now for 64GB.

Sold and fulfilled by Amazon themselves.

One of the first rules of thumb working in technology is quality storage. Cheap HDD's just like SD card's are nothing but problems...

Don't waste your money on anything above a Class 10/U1 rated card as even the greediest GoPro Hero 4 Black camera has a bitrate far under the minimum rating for those classes.

E.g. This 32GB Samsung card for under £12 delivered is not going to perform any worse than these ridiculously overspecced cards for twice the price!

Ok well I ended up getting another PNY card 32gig 100mb read and 30mb write its price £29.95 as you say these are cheap cards if you think about it they are more expensive than the samsung cards lol but in saying that it still sticks at speed regardess we got told to try this one and if a fail we will get refund well its a fail so its going back the morn and im ordering a card from the net but I want to be 100% sure its faultless and Lurch i never got the links in your reply and cheese I see what you mean by samsung price

Will this card be fine for my GoPro Hero 3+ Silver Edition 1080px60FPS because the issue has always been the card cant handle 60fps !

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00J29D62Y <--- 64 gig without adaptor £22 one ????

Now I want to be 100% sure cause I don't want to be huffin and puffin all night long lol
