Gopro Audio Issues!

The_Pauly

Mac and cheese?? I THINK NOT, SIR!
So, my first outing with the gopro was a massive failure.

I had the camera pointed too low, and my mic doesn't work for some reason.

I plug the adapter in, plug the mic into it and hit record. And...nothing happens.
I get a dickload of angry hissing/static noise, but nothing through the mic itself. The internal mic works perfectly, so it's not an audio issue.
I found that a mobile phone headset mic picks up SOME sound, but the same noisy hissing static overpowers it, and my voice is lost in the SSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, which is pretty crap.

I'm using a Hero 4 silver edition, so if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

If it helps at all, the adapter is the official gopro one, and the mic is a 3.5mm standard lapel mic, which I've been using with my Drift with no issue at all.

Is the noise you're hearing wind or just white noise? Has it picked up any recognisable audio at all?

Just white noise. When I plugged the phone headset in, it picked up a tiny bit of voice audio but it sounded like I was shouting from a few miles away over the hissing.

Got anyone near who has a GoPro audio set up? Try theirs in yours and yours in theirs, eliminate the camera or the str up from the equation.

Unfortunately, I'm the only one of the 'Local' vloggers who uses a GoPro. Everyone else is an avid Drift user.

I've seen this on my 3+ silver after the GoPro cable went bad from physical damage (bending since you have to wrap it around the back of the case)

Did you mod the case for the mic adapter or are you running it exposed like in the Frame mount?

If the USB cable isn't 100% in it will also do what you experienced, also if the cable isn't secure it will wiggle its way out...

With regard to the viewing angle use the GoPro APP (android and apple) to check your angles and do an audio test clip!

Should have it all sorted now, found a mic that works :) Got the GP app all hooked up to my camera, so I have everything I need to get on the road!

Only problem is, the mic picks up a buttload of wind noise where it is now, so I'll have a fiddle with positioning and stuff to see if I can get a decent sounder quality :)
