Good Motovlog Camera

I'm looking for a new action camera and I really like the hero 4 session, but for the life of me I cannot find out if it supports an external mic setuf for motovlogging and such..I want a regular GoPro but I like the little features the session has like the mic that washes water out quickly and so on.

Session I believe doesn't support external mics. You could use an external voice recorder and sync up in the edit.

I have an iPhone..do you think I could use the voice recorder with a mic setup through the headphone jack? And if so what happens if I'm riding and I get a call? Would it stop recording?

Don't think the Session supports external mics. I would recommend Drift Ghost S or GoPro Hero 4 / 5.

The Drift has some nice features and is pretty much ready to use out the box but they are so unreliable that it's actually funny that Drift have yet to release a firmware update to fix the constant crashing.

If you don't mind a slightly more clunky mounting system then the GoPro is a very good choice. They have the best picture quality and personally I think their SuperView feature is awesome.

I totally agree. I just recently saw the session for $199 so I wanted to see if it was worth getting. I also will be using it for other thinks like I'm taking my girlfriend to Hawaii next summer and I heard it was good with the water drainage.

Nothing more frustrating than a crashing camera. So I recommend the GoPro Hero 3/4. the sound might be more of a hazzle with the USB-3.5mm adapter and modification of the case. But at least its stable. And you can always buy a cheap knockoff waterproof case if you don't want to modify the one that comes with the camera. Better to keep the water out entirely than rely on drainage.

That said, I haven't tried the Ghost myself.

Tested the Session 4, personally I feel the audio is rubbish if you are running at higher speeds. A Hero2/3/4 would be better off especially if you plan to use it to do motovlogging and do not want the hassle of having two recording devices (for audio/video).

I have a drift ghost s and a GoPro hero 3 silver.

They are 2 very different things to be honest.

Drift will work for vlogs straight out of the box with a external mic, is easier to mount and has a smaller profile on the helmet. Never had a single issue with crashing have only had a crackle issue which was a damaged mic.

GoPro will give slightly better results but will take a lot more work to setup. Currently have mine mounted on the bars and it suffers from jello wobble.

The other thing I have found is once the videos are processed, and loaded to YouTube you can't tell the difference.

You can check my xmas video as there is footage from both on that. GoPro does need some settings changed as for some reason it was quite washed out.

ive thought about getting a drift, but I already have a cheap, knock off GoPro that I bought off amazon so I have lots of mounts already.. So I think I'm going to buy a hero 3 plus. Thank you!!

If you decide on a GoPro, definitely go with the Hero 3+ upwards since they have the wide angle option.
Great for motovlogging as you can see in my avatar pic.

hero 4 silver really does the trick. premiere pro has some awesome presets for color correction

Get a hero 3+ black. I managed to get one for $250 with 2 batteries, the waterproof case, several mounts and a 32GB sd card. I only had to purchase a skeleton case, microphone adapter, and mic which added around $30 bucks but I have a setup that will last me several years.

Just love the convenience of the Drift Ghost S
