Hi guys,

To begin, the background info:

- Name: Vo0Do0... dont care how you spell it, real name is Dan ;)

- Australian, NSW

- Im 22, at uni doing IT and Business major in Software Dev. Track day enthusiast as well as commuter/weekend rider.... I have no car, 3 bikes... trying to ditch my pc gaming habit for more motorcycle stuff, motovloging seemed like a good avenue. Hopefully I can integrate my IT knowledge into it somehow.

- Bikes:
-- 09 GSX-R 600, can't ride it yet, still restricted license. I'm allowed to ride it on 21 Nov :D
-- 06 GS500F, my beginner bike, pretty over it but it does the job
-- 03 ZX6R 636, my dedicated track bike... I got sick of riding slow bikes so I went all out... my government doesn't accept that some of us could handle bigger bikes sooner than others

- haven't started v-logging yet:

I'm new to v-logging. I have 2 very shitty KMart Go-pro's I got for track days but I would like better quality + helmet view and audio. These were just to catch crashes at the track haha!

I did once buy a Tachyon HD XD helmet cam... thing was a buggy piece of shit, wish I never bought it.

Doing some searching I am looking at the Drift HD or preferably the ghost... but it is alot more. but I have no idea how to select a mic or how the editing goes or anything.

Can anyone comment on Mic selection? I assume its gotta be noise cancelling and a wire to get it into my helmet... but thats it. I have seen some for $20 but is that to cheap?

Also, is the ghost that much better than the drift HD? I have already decided that the drift in general is more suited to me than a GoPro.

Anyway, Considering the Drift HD Ghost, just gotta plan for cost and mic selection and I'm ready to roll.

Hi everyone!
-Dan

Gday Dan,
Welcome aboard, i too have a shitty GoPro Gen1, ready+almost about to get the Drift HD, research ive done seems to indicate, get the Drift HD, CHEAP, still reliable, Mic input, etc etc.

What gaming you play/ed? i am a wee bit addicted to Arma 2/3 atm. Nice physics, Much more realistic than that BF3/4 shit. lol

Good luck for 21 November, have a nice LONG ride on that day. Hope its sunny+dry 4ya.

Thanks mate!

Yeh atm I am actually waiting on a few games. Never got into Arma, ditched cod a while ago for BF3 and am waiting for BF4. I play DoTA2 on PC, and anything zelda on mums Wii .. lol.. ex WoW, waiting on The Elder Scrolls Online, Destiny, Project Spark and The Division.

I also played a bit of Planetside 2.

Used to play Halo ALOT but I kinda got over it.

I'm PC and XBox..... but Next gen I am unsure and won't be buying unless I have spare cash. Which atm is going into bikes, hence why I am trying to stop gaming hahahahahahaha

Yeah, know what you mean, Arma3 is HUGELY dependant on processor+GrCard. Mine, are crap!! Thus 'Lots' of lagg.
Ive gotta update my Ram+GrCard. But thats all im doing for know. PC is old but its a survivor. (and im tight)

I do miss the Xbox, fast as buggery, never any lag and no updating!!

Cheers

maybe its good I haven't got into it then. I recently upgraded most of my PC.Can't rememer specifics but:
- Fastest I5 i could get
- new mobo to suit
- 16, or 32 Gb of RAM cos overkill is fun
- new HD
- new optical drive
- new tower

next upgrade will be a new PSU and new Graphics cards. Currently running 2 Nvidia GTX260 (core 216) in SLI... over 4 years old, maybe 6 :/ , but are holding up well.. starting to get a bit glitchy and can't run full graphics on FPS games... but they are holding up well considering the age and that they are run as hard as possible, for 2 monitors, all the time

Welcome Dan,

I'm still reasonably new myself ... :D

If you go the Ghost route ... $25 Stereo mic from Jaycar electronics ... I just uploaded a vid today with the mic ... It is a pretty good piece for the price

Vid here .. http://youtu.be/Moy7t7xz_LY ... Other recent vids were with the drift mono mic in a couple different places ..

Position of mic is just as important as what mic ..

Not fishing for a sub ... But won't mind if you do ;)

If you go the drift 1080p .. I dunno if it's stereo guts in the camera? .. And I 'think' it's a 2.5mm Jack .. Ghost is std 3.5mm

Anyway ... Welcome again!

Cheers

Welcome to the site Dan, great to see yet another Aussie joining the ranks of motovlogging! :D

As for the mic situation, I have a DriftHD and a GoPro Hero3. I am using different mics for both cameras, both mics cost me around $20 to $25 each from Jaycar and do the trick nicely.

If you check out my vids, (not my early ones) you will see that my sound is pretty clear, there are probably others out there that are better, but I am happy with my sound at the moment.

I also paid $1 for a square foot of foam from Spotlight recently which I have wrapped around the end of the mics and glued which helps a lot with the wind, especially when I am on the mountain bike.

I am yet to upload any footage recorded since I added that foam though.

Looking forward to seeing some of your track day footage when you are set up!

Cheers mate.

Bill :-)

Welcome!

I'm also using a Drift Ghost + Drift mic that's compatible with the ghost (so not the Drift HD mic).

Would love to see some of your track footage!

I only have 1 vid so far, had 2 trackdays (at a track that allows cameras) since I bought them, and the 2nd I crashed out befor I started using them.

The kmart GoPros fog up really quickly in the morning and suck at direct sunlight, so the footage is pretty terrible. Also, youtube "smoothed it out" so the speedo I use near the end jumps around.. ahwell

hmm .. youtube is forever popping up a blue banner on my screen after an upload... "we have detected your video is shaky would you like us to fix it?" ... i tell them NO ..

tried it once and some of the footage went to crap...

what i really want is the button that tells them no .. to say "F%$K OFF!" ...... ;)

Haha cheers mate, Well I might get around to editing the last one where I crashed and put it up. Im gunna keep the shitty gopro's on there for fun, but will use the drift for quality, and so I can let watchers know I missed a gear, or someone scared the shit out of me, and just fun stuff like that... also random, "holy shit's" when stuff happens

Drift is in the mail, will put up my first Vlog when I get it. Really hoping its not on a uni exam date... cos Ill fail the exam :P

if/when the budget allows... get the waterproof drift case and use that for your trackdays too..

no not for the water ! ... the case still allows good bike noise in through the walls... while keeping out bad wind noise and the super harsh audio edges of the engine ...

good value for good audio to use .. around $50-$60 ?? ... 8-)

Hey guys, just updating my intro post, to inform you all I now have an intro video/ first Vlog! YAY!!!!!!!

Let me know what you think, keeping in mind its my first :P.

I will mention I have already recorded a short detailed "my bikes" vlog showing my bikes and my first topic vlog however due to my internet usage being capped I can't upload them for arouund 10 days. So if your keen, subscribe and you can always unsub later if you don't like it :)... and after this short break they will be fairly regular, at least once a week. Riding is my main hobby and I have no car so I get a lot of time to vlog hahahaha
