Hi there.

Has anyone mounted a camera on the front of a flip up helmet? I have a Shoei Neotec with camera mounted on top of the helmet.

I use a GoPro and am keen to hear anyone's experiences, good and bad and any other positions where camera's have been mounted ...... on helmets :-)

Thanks

Tony

I used a curved GoPro base and stem, modified the top of the stem slightly and matched my drift ghost plate onto that .... Mounted it just behind the top plate of the air vent cover on my Nolan N102 ....

Using the GoPro stem to lift the camera body got good forward vision without any of the helmet in the shot

Thanks for the response. That sounds like the same position I have mine mounted on my Shoei.

I find it is "out in the wind" up there and does put extra pressure on my neck from the wind pressure against the camera, the go pro's do seem more "boxy" than the drifts.

It doesn't look like there is anywhere to mount it on the front so I may need to look at mounting on the side.

Yep ... Looking at the pics of a neotec now .... The red unlock tab that pops out is pretty much the same as my nolan .. And a complete bastard to mount near ....

(The drift cam doesn't give me too much neck stiffness/wind drag up top of helmet... Not until way over the legal limit anyway .... Which I never do! )

Anyway .. Back to the front mount problem .... Only solution I can envisage is the following... I'll try to put pics of the parts I mean also...

Location, left or right 'jaw' of chin bar.
Curved adhesive pad mounted on the horizontal plane... So it's a laying down football not a standing on end football when helmet is closed.

I have a Nolan flip face, BlueTooth mounted init. But i havent been game to put the 'Stick-on' mount for the GoPro yet. Tried different positions but its too curved for the curved mount (on the side).
So ive only used the suction mount on top. I didnt feel any extra 'Wind Drag' though?
But i only have a Gen1 GoPro atm, so REALLY sensitive and shitty Mic anyway :(

My aim is for the Drift, cause the side mounting on ANY helmut makes sense (slimmer Camera), the GoPro is WAY TOO bulky to work on the side or top of a helmut in my opinion.

Cheers

Yes, I see what you mean. If I put it just to the left, that way it won't interfere with the little sticky outie thingy for putting the visor up and down.

I will give it a go and see how it works.

Thanks

Right... Curved or flat mount on the lower part of the front yellow decal.. Left or right...

Get yourself ones of these kits if you don't have already ...called Helmet mount kit or grab bag sometimes

Either of the stem mounts, the directional elbow and the screw ... You need them

So .. Sticky pad set horizontal/along chin bar .. Stem mount... Elbow.... Camera...

It should swivel in and in front of the unlock tab when you want to record... And swivel out/away when you need to open helmet.... Firm screw pressure to hold in wind.. But still respond to firm hand pressure to swivel ... The directional elbow is going to give you X and Y adjustment.... For lining up good forward view...

Microphone cable along elbow stem and down to base, under lower edge of chin bar and into/under padding ... Depending on where your mic sweet spot is... If you need to get to main body of helmet then stay under padding of chin bar, up to tilt face axis/axle point and with a little slack feed the cable into and under main padding ..

I think this will increase turbulence/buffeting/wind noise directly to the visor area... And possibly over whole front of helmet ?? ... But price paid for 'art' ... And having a flip face helmet!;)

Hope this makes sense .. And is suitable ....

I use the stick on mount on top. Those things will never come off.

I have just bought a cheap mic and I run it down from the camera to inside the helmet.

I tend to do long day rides (600km) and I find at the end my neck is much stiffer on the days I wear the camera, than the days I don't.

I always stick to the speed limit, no really, honestly...... and it is at the higher speeds that I feel the wind drag.

Cheers.

Thanks heaps.

I have everything except the elbow, so will grab one tomorrow.

I find on the Tiger, that the wind is just hitting the top of the visor, so mounting it down lower might actually take it out of the wind and maybe I won't get any turbulence. I will update tomorrow after I have mounted and been for a ride.

Which Nolan? , if it's the newer 104 then I'm after a 'review' of the comfort and wind noise compared to previous ones... 104 vs 102 ideally ... And ... Is it the ncom Bluetooth or different?

:)
