Finally back to making videos!

Finally the weather is letting up enough for me to get out and do a video. It's been over 5 months. My vids are usually 10-12 mins max, but this time I decided to go outside the box and streamline with what the norm these days seems to be, and did a 27 minute video at 1080p/60. It was 3.9 gigs when processing was finished and I started uploading it day before yesterday so it's been about 30-35 hours so far

. Right now it is at 74% uploaded. I figure one more day should do it. This is one of the reasons I didn't want to do longer vids. Ah well, eventually it will be up and I'm curious to see how well it will do. With a 5 month break I'm sure the algorithm doesn't even know I exist, but what the hell. The joys of having 5/1 internet!

Have you considered copying the file over to your phone's storage, switching your phone to wifi, connecting to the wifi at your local starbucks/mcdonalds/gym/public library/wherever free high speed internet is offered to patrons, and uploading from your phone over the public wifi to test the upload speed?

Might be an interesting experiment to see what the big corporations are able to provide to customers and if it proves to be faster, talk to the staff about what company is powering it.

On another topic - Is 27 minutes really "the norm these days"? My last 4 videos combined don't add up to 27 minutes. There are only about 4 youtubers I think I'd want to watch 27 consecutive minutes of.

I think it is up to the creator how long they make their vids, not all viewers want the instant gratification, even if the yoof of today struggle to stay tuned on a 30 second Tik -Tok video, others do prefer long form, especially on reviews.
Def sounds like a good idea to try putting a vid on the phone and uploading it off other companies Wi-Fi while having a brew.

I suppose I could try it but not sure when I'll find time to sit in a Tim Horton's or the town library for 3 days! The last time I tried using wifi at the local donut shop I got so frustrated I turned it off and went to data. It's usually terrible, unable to view anything. Basic email or facebook is all it can handle.
As for video length, I'm still playing around with that. I do think I want to make longer vids, but maybe not 27 minutes every time. My goal will be one vid is one day, or one adventure, because I think by splitting it up I lose half the audience who can't be bothered to find the other video to watch the next part. I'll just have to get better at chopping it down.

I wouldn't bother with a local donut shop unless it's a big corporate chain where they have company policies to follow and the money to spend on it. Better some place which is known to be a location people go to in order to use the wifi. McDonald's while on road trips, Starbucks during the work day, etc. Big chains synonymous with using wifi as an attraction.
