External Audio Recorders

How many people are using separate audio recording and syncing clips?

Are you putting the recorder in your pocket? Mounting it to helmet?

Lets see some setups

separate audio. I use a cheap ebay lapel-mic and record with my smartphone.
If you can connect a external mic to your camera it is the easyest way.
Best option is to buy a good recorder like zoom or tascam but it is not necessary.
syncing audio is simple. If you have your camera on helmet, just smack it so you get a soundpeak. Then sync the external audio to the internal audio. Or you can clap your hands or something. It is not very important to match 100% if you dont film yourselves talking.
Good luck

Zoom audio recorder somewhere at the rear end of the bike to get the best possible exhaust sound. Syncing with actioncam audio track as slight background when talking.

I run two cameras, but one really doesn't have good audio since it is on the outside of the bike. I still need to synch the audio so the footage lines up. And I usually clap and then rev the engine to get it done properly. Sometimes I am matched 100%, other times it's like 99.8 due to the way the tracks line up. (And undoubtedly my by now ancient Sony Vegas 10 Pro)

If they don't line up 100% I just cut the camera's audio. Then again, I usually just do that anyway because the mic on the AS-15 is garbage.

Mine is weird, but works so far for what I need. I have a uClear HBC100 Plus Bluetooth communicator. I use that as a BT mic with the Parrot app for my android phone. Not the best quality, but it is relatively clear and wireless. Matching it up on an editor (windows movie maker) can often prove to be the most tedious part of the editing process. LOL
