Example Of Royaljordanian's 70% Rule

I will explain how I used this theory. A couple weeks ago, I was riding with my buddy who rides and R1 and is a "local fastguy". We started off mild. Riding about 20MPH over the speed limit and enjoying the twisties. All of a sudden, he starts hauling ass. Speeds were 90-110MPH on the highway. Yep miles not kilos. Anyways, after a minute.. I realized, man I can't ride that fast on highway littered with cars. I could ride, but I would be riding to 100% of my ability.

So I slowed down, road around 80-85MPH, with a big grin on my face. I caught up with him in a couple months after the highway ended. No biggy. I road at 70% of my ability.

Sadly last sunday on that same road. 2 bikers perished. Excessive speed was the cause.

the the whole things has not much to do with speed itself, you could have a freak accident while rolling. But OlliePrice said it well. You also have to take road conditions, traffic, weather and such in consideration besides the speed. On my video there was a pothole i saw to late. If i would have gone 100% there would have been no time to recover.

You build your ability with experience, not by pushing yourself.

Best thing to learn about planning is to do an advance riding course like the IAM or RoSPA in the UK. It has improved my riding a lot.

Thanks for the Likes, Lurch is pretty much saying what I have been trying to explain. Go on either of those courses and the main lesson will be, Stop looking down and start looking ahead.

Thanks Ollie and Shirou, i reckon i get it now ... was thinking about it too much and more from the bikes capability than my own.

cheers

If I am vlogging I reckon I hit about 50%. But 40% is going to vlogging, That's why in my videos I don't tend to filter or over take unless I've shut Up.

Vlogging takes a hit on your brainpower so I agree with Ollie on this, while vlogging SLOW DOWN, even when you feel "in control" of the road conditions, you're putting your mind to use in vlogging and at certain times riding goes to "background tasks".

I noticed I cannot vlog on unknown roads. I was riding for the first time on certain twisties, lots of scenery and wanted to vlog while at it, I kept stalling the vlog, I couldn't concentrate on either thing so I had to be silent and enjoy the view and ride. It happened again at the top of the mountain, the scenery was awesome and I couldn't vlog because I did not feel "at home" on those new roads.

it just takes practice, for months before I started my blog I would just talk to myself. Now I still do, but I am recording it. So some how that makes me normal. :P

that's fair enough, like you said we all have our own style and the more different you are the more you are likely to stand out :D
