So you're for it then?

Given the current licencing scheme assumes age is all that's needed to ride a bike.

Pass a single test, wait two years until your 19, one biker created?

As for that sporty 600 why the hell would you want it restricted to 33bhp instead of 45bhp?

Bloke,

I don't really understand the grounding for your argument, in theory, you could do your full licence and leave it for 5/10 years even under the new system, just cause you'd then nearly be ready to pull your pension doesn't mean you'd be safer?

How long people might not ride for after a test is not an argument for/against the system they took it under IMO

No i'm against it!

Im just collecting my thoughts, i like neither system but seeming though we have to either keep the current current or accept the new id rather have current.

I think it's stupid that the current system allows you to wait 2 years without experience and get straight onto a bigger bike but like curcly said, the new system would be even worse. I dont like the old but it's more sensible than the new for so many reasons...

From what others have said i was under the impression the new laws restricted by cc as well bhp meaning you couldnt go onto a 600 restricted to 45bhp? I was stating that I'd rather be able to go straight onto a 600 restricted to 33bhp which i can then de-restrict after 2 years rather than having to buy another new bike after owning a 400 to get the extra power i want.

You'd be surprised what power you can get from a 400, the reason why all the newer riders want 600's is because it's pretty much smack bang in the middle of the biking world. More people ride 600's than anyother class.

My mate had a 400 Bandit, was a little wheelie monster & would keep up with 1000's. What people don't understand is that anything 400 - upwards will keep up with any bike just as long as it's not in a straight line.

a 400 around twisties will do what a 1000 will do around them, they'll both take a corner at 70, its the difference between the corners. You take a corner better than the 1000 you have a better chance of beating it. After this summer I'll dertmin if I still want the SV or if I want a Sports bike, at the moment the SV seems perfect but summer will be different with track days comming up & riding around yorkshire so I await to see.

*Off Topic I know* < but who cares half of this thread is off topic anyways

The 45bhp restriction also has a cc restriction of 400. So you can't have a 600 restricted to anything. When you've been riding at the very least 4 years and youve done all 5 tests required only then can you ride a 600.

That's just not right!

There won't be enough 400's to go around, I might be wrong but you don't see many around. Even if the manufactures did start producing 400's again, they're not going to be affordable for a lot of years. Most people can only afford a bike that's about 10 years old as a first bike. New bike prices will be to high for most young riders, adding even more cost to getting a license.

Exactly!

You need only look at how long its taking manufactures to release around 33bhp bikes for the current test. IIf the manufactures decide to make new 400s (which they will only do if they consider it profitable, so a lot of people will have to do their test under the new rules) its going to be years till we see them!

And the current Ninja and CBR 250s, plus the just annonced new 250 from suzuki, are going to vanish. Who is going to want them? Especially given how few are around second hand.
