So I finally got my new replacement Drift HD. Oddly they only replaced one even though both were experiencing the same trouble. One of the problems I was having, I was told by Drift Innovation support, would be fixed by the latest update so as soon as the new camera arrived I updated it. I went outside and tested the new firmware to see if it fixed the exposure problems. I made it better but still not good. I decided that it was better than before so I went ahead and updated both cameras.
The weekend came along and I went out to record some dual sport riding. It was one of the best days I've had on two wheels. I was very excited to get home and edit the video. I got home and quickly scrubbed through the videos and still noticed exposure problems but it was better than its ever been and was acceptable so I was ok with it. The next day I went to edit the video and realized I couldn't here myself speaking unless I was sitting still with the engine off.
I thought they finally listened and changed the audio settings for the external mic since all but the lowest setting was unusable. I was a bit pissed that there was no mention of this in on the downloads page for the firmware update. I just found out why.
This morning I did a test at my desk. I could barely hear myself on level one. Level 3 and 4 were a little better so I did a test of level 3 and 4 on the way to work. I got here and had nothing but wind noise unless I was sitting still and realized what had happened. The external mic wasn't working at all. It was picking up my voice from the built in mic but while moving it couldn't hear me over the wind noise.
This isn't a cable problem. Its not a camera hardware problem. This is happening with both of my camera and both of my microphones. The only logical explanation is that the firmware update totally disabled the microphone and I can find no way to turn it back on.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Why can't these guys get it right?! They have the potential to have the best camera for what we do but they're totally incompetent. The form factor is much better than the GoPro or any other camera on the market right now but every time they fix one thing they drastically screw up something else. How are these guys still in business?!
