If Drift could make the beep louder when it starts recording and make the remote more reliable I would keep them because I like the form factor of the Drift but the GoPro never gave me any trouble and at this point I need reliability. I used to put out a video just about every week. Now its sometimes only once a month due to reliability or quality issues with the Drift.

Why don't you just reach up and press the button? Works fine for me. I think I used the remote twice. The signal is just way too weak. As for the battery issues...if I'm going to be riding more than an hour and a half I plug the thing in. Unlimited battery life ftw. :)

my drift hd wont work anymore and ive tryed changing to battery over and everything but still nothing is happening but its only 3am in the morning but i think i need to wait till 8am to contact them and find out what the problem is

Only if they had a speaker on the mic that would send the beeping sound directly to your helmet so you can hear it. I have never owned a GoPro but im thinking about getting one and have a drift and GoPro. The footage from a GoPro seems better when you want to have a third person view and not a POV from the helmet. Sorry to hear your displeased with the drift

You can get a little red LED that plugs into one of the ports on the Drift HD. You put it in your helmet somewhere near the visor and it can act as a HUD type thing to let you know whether the camera is on or not and if it is recording. I completely forgot about that thing until you said that.

I have the led indicator for my Drift HD, simple and effective.

Got mine in the mail on friday, 3 days ago. Did newest firmware but thats it. So far everythign works great. Sometimes I use the remote and sometimes I just reach up and press it. Havn't edited any, just uploading the files from the cam. I'm really impressed with it so far with no issues. But it is still fairly new will keep you posted.

The little LED is a great idea but at this point I don't want to spend anymore money on these crappy cameras. The remote sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I guess the light will at least let me know the times it doesn't work so I can jam the hell out of the button over and over until it does work.

Trinith mentioned the lousy range on the remote. What's the point of having a remote if the range is so low that it wont work when the camera is on the side of your head and the remote is at the end of your arm. That's piss poor range if you ask me and makes the remote beyond useless. I shouldn't have to kiss my gauges to get the remote in range of the camera.

The main reason I bought these things was for the remote and microphone and those are the things giving me the most trouble. I'll be testing a GoPro HD2 when the remotes come out for them. If I can achieve decent audio and the remotes work I think I'll be switching back to GoPro.

For all of you that think the Drift is awesome I can only assume that you just turn them on and leave them on. That works great I guess but my problem is I like to record when I'm on long rides and I can't leave it on the whole time.

Then again the batteries seem to drain just as fast in standby as they do when recording so I guess I should just record the whole time.

Congrats to those that are happy with these things but I'm very disappointed. Maybe both of mine came from a bad batch but they've been nothing but trouble and a major headache and they've just about totally halted my production of videos for my channel.

Yeah, you really have to 'jam the hell out of the button over and over.' Give me a break dude. The button works just fine with a simple press. If you can't figure that out, well I guess that explains the next point...

Funny you mention that. I recorded every minute of a 1000+ mile ride from Houston to Chattanooga. You very well can leave it on the whole time, you just have to do something you can't do with a gopro. Plug it in while using it.

Are you using the Drift HD or one of the other models? When I press the button it doesn't always work. You can blame me all you want but there are only two buttons. I don't see how the hell it can be my fault. You mentioned they have crappy range. If it doesn't work within 2-3 feet then what's the point of having a remote.

I'm glad your Drift is working for you. It's not working for me and from what I can tell from comments on my videos and other vloggers complaining on their channels I'm not the only one having trouble with them.

Maybe those of you that like them are ok with its limitations or jumping through hoops to get them to work but I expect things to work as advertised.

I emailed Drift customer service half an hour ago and they just replied me. Whoaou..30 mins....that fast.

I told them about my complains (bad video quality and exposure) and asked them if any upgrade is coming out. They told me that they are aware of that problems and that they already have a firmware upgrade ready and now it is in test mode. They are gonna release it in mid-May.

So Drift guys be patient, this is their last chance for me....eslewhere goodbuy Drift.
They were very kind though.

PS. I just registered to inform you guys...i know your feelings...i feel dissapointed too. Lets hope the new firmware will fix that issues. I use it for mountain biking btw.

Has anyone tried the new firmware update? I did it yesterday, it sure fixed the exposure issue but i think the overall quality is the same...well in 1080p i think its worst...

My chief instructor and business partner have the Smaller Drift hd and to be honest, the pic quality isn't a patch on my Gopro Hero2. The batteries haven't lasted that long either. I'd considered the drift, I'm pleased I got the Gopro.

I updated one of mine. The other one was sent back for replacement and I'm still waiting on the new one.

I thought for a minute that it bricked it. Every time I hit the record button the red light came on and the LCD went off. When I hit the record button to stop it nothing happened and I had to remove the battery. That's the exact thing I had to send my other one back for. After doing this twice and resetting it to default settings it seems ok now but I have a feeling I can't trust it.

The exposure doesn't seem to go back and forth from too light to too dark anymore but the quality is still not what I would expect from an "HD" camera.
