Wow. You are so close now. Can you expand the hole and get some needle nose pliers or tweezers in there to grip that shaft?

@dandoolittle ... Need MORE time till edit expiry!!! ... I know it's there for a purpose but damn... I forgot and just lost 4 paragraphs of problem solve and explanation!!

Anyway... For the thread...

Sigh .... Redone form ...

I'm not happy with supposedly 'drift' spares ...

I am happy to sacrifice this cover for future reference in case someone else has same problem and is short of cash or is in a bind time wise... I could have sent it back and get a replacement I guess... But I don't want to send camera away for god knows how long, I can't get cover off otherwise.... And it's pissing me off that some design boffin thought this multi layer bolt thing was a good idea when I'm pretty sure a simpler bolt and o-ring for weather would have done!!!

I hoped the hex shaft would accept an Allen key and screw out ... Silly design again! ... It does take a 3/16 Allen key but I can't get it to shift... Right up to and including spinning the key in the hole...

So I'm gonna drill down some more and hopefully get to where I can grip the end of bolt ... Try and save the rest if knob but if not then no drama...

Once off and out I can bodge up another bolt and weather cover for bolt head (bits I saw in electronic shop recently) ...

This is the second item I have bought in a drift package.. That has failed.... The other one was a mount clip that screws into the camera.... The central shaft of that (where you tighten it up for securing the angle) .... Rattles... Like it's missing a rubber/nylon o-ring or washer.... It's not severe really but it's enough to put minor joggles in the footage sometimes...

I would cynically suspect that there is a sub contractor somewhere in buttfuck - china that is producing sub standard spares that are then getting packaged as 'good quality' Drift items.... And either Drift or a wholesaler is repackaging them and selling them on..... Sub fucking standard quality control!!!

"If you need to poke a bear in the eye with a stick to stop him gnawing your leg off, then you pick up a nice simple stick and poke away!!... You don't casually pull out your CAD and design a precise, multilayered, eye socket fitting, hand crafted and engraved with "Grizzly eye poker Mk2" !!!! Then carve the bloody thing!! ...

Simplicity is key!! ... Even for manufacturing!!! ...

Right.... Drilled another 4 slow revs or so.... Bloody knurl section is only held on by another couple mm of plastic... The central shaft is still there, got the cover off .. YAY!!! And the main bolt out of the camera chassis YAY!! ....Pinching the rest of shaft off with pliers .. Hmmm

o_Oo_Oo_O .... .... Ok now I'm mad!! ... No.... MAD !!!!!!!!

... Sheer fucking brilliance!! NOT .... The central flat head ... Is indeed a tiny bolt hex head .... The 3/16 Allen key ... Which fit snugly down the shaft ... Which is MEANT to be the grip shaft .... Is visibly bigger then the bolt head .... So ... It quickly wore through the loose fitting corners of the shaft and just spun!!!

I'll go to a mates workshop next couple days and get him to put the vernier calipre on the bolt hex head.... But on a scale kinda thing.... A 7/32 head in a 1/4 hex hole ....

Some fucking monkey in a production shop ran out of larger head bolts (with same small thread diameter) and just used 'next best thing' ????????

And it's 11.30 at night right now and the neighbours might complain if I went out backyard to scream abuse at the sky!!!!!:mad::mad:

Ok .. Issue solved kinda.... I can get the other knob out of the original hatch and mount into this one, or swap the USB rubber cover from this one into that one... But that's not the bloody point!!!

Once I get the actual vernier measurement of the micro bolt head.... The measurement AND photos will be going to Drift for a WTF!!!!!!! ... Don't care if they don't answer really ... But I'd love it if they followed it up and cracked some cheap ass workshop monkey head on a desk!!.... Or it might be their clever fucking idea of promoting spares sales or service $$$$ ....

Mutter fucking MUMBLE!!

Hey Janxy, are you talking about this back:

If so, then there appears to be two possible reasons why your knob spins (Porno Exorcist anybody?).

Either the black knob on the outside of the hatch has come unstuck from the bolt, or the nut has become unstuck from the door that holds the battery in.

Easy answer, send it back to Drift. But, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty...

Break the knob off with some pliers so you get to the other end of the bolt. Then undo it. If that works, yay. If not:

Its the nut that's loose in the door. Send it back to Drift.

This helped me a lot. Thanks.
I just removed the factory bolt and plastic nut and replaced it with a basic bolt and spacer. I will shoot a video and post it later this week for you all to see how I solved the dreadful GHOST S issue with the rear cover.

If you watch Jake TheGardenSnakeon YT, his drift wasnt turning on so he contacted Drift and they sent him a brand new one for free. I would contact them.

I think they'd replace both of my HD170's with Ghost-S's and give me a blowie toboot if I had as much of an audience as Jake! Not really a real world example of their customer service style!!

I had problems (and continue to have problems) with my HD1080. They said "Buy a Ghost-S, it's better"

On the Drift website they say to format the card using a program called SD Formatter. I format it every time I download footage from the camera and haven't had any crashes since.

I am struggling to edit my video in iMovie 'cos the bloody thing would not show preview of clips. Instead of showing the content, it just shows the black screen with audio. So, I decided to upload photos and show you guys what I did with the rear cover. So far, so good. Sent these to Drift and looking for replacement cover.
