Drift ghost issues!!?!?

Yeah that's the one Steel ... I got a replacement one because the USB cover rubber thing got lost on the original one...

I looked at the original when this new one went pfft ... And yeah I think your first option is most likely ... I can get the tin snips out and cut the bugger but trying to save it if I can... Can always just transfer the rubber USB thing to the old cover ...

I've got about half a mm of looseness on the cover as it is... I can flex the edges up a bit to kinda see in... But just trying to think of what/how/tools to try get it undone without fragging anything...

Might need some jewellers tools I think... Very small but strong..... Hmmmmm ... Bloody thing!

Just played around with my back, and found this:

The knob screws directly into the back of the bolt. So if your knob is spinning it means this thread is stripped (unlikely), the small bolt in the knob is spinning, or (as before) the nut is spinning in the battery door.

Not sure how this helps.

And in doing this I think I've stuffed my knob. Can't get it to go back so it is locked yet spins. Bugger.

Cheers bro ... It is spinning freely ... Neither tightening or loosening .. Over 20 rotations in test ... It doesn't feel like stripped though.... No catching or roughness which I would normally expect ...even in something this small I would expect some 'feeling' to it if it was stripped... Hmmmmm ..

Trying to use a bobby pin to make something catch tension wise.... Other than that it's just freewheeling....

Only just saw you stuffed fixed it again.... ... Sorry bro... Would have felt bad if assistance caused dramas! .. Glad it's functional again! :)

Do you have enough space, and a strong enough thing (maybe some tweezers opened out) to open the battery door latch?

Most action cams are as unreliable as the next had gopro, drift ghost, and don't action cam. All 3 had issues. Using a ghost s now no issues yet

I can get one blade of tweezers in there.... And .... Frag it... Now I've gotta be careful!!! ... Shone a torch in the wee gap and just noticed I have unhitched the memory card from the lock in... So it's sticking up ... And if I poke the wrong way then I could frag up the card I think....

Pause....breathe in ......breathe out..... Woooooosah!!

And.... Open mic cover.... Use needle point tweezers to re lock memory card.... Phew....

Now you little muddah bolt!! ... Stop messin me about!

Shhh .... That's secret!! ... Besides.... Pinhole CCTV is so much more efficient! :p

And I am glad you there helping mate... My orig cover is in hone desk drawer at work ...

Ok ... After levering up the edge of the hatch with a tweezers blade.... The sleeve/bolt of the thing with the flat sides that you pictured above ... Is NOT rotating if I lower the hatch and turn the knob ... Can you confirm if that sleeve rotates with turning or not?

Haven't tried doing it with hatch wedged up though.... Gonna have to dig my mini pliers out of the shed in a sec ... Wedged up I can't turn the know with just fingers... Too much tension on it....

Which is another reason I'm puzzled about possible stripped thread.... Amount of pressure I have on it now 'should' pull the inner screw out of the sleeve if it were stripped.....

Pin-hole. That's it. As soon as I typed it I knew it was wrong but didn't know what the correct thing was.

The thing with the flat sides does rotate with the knob.

Ok .. Cheers.... Mine does not .... At all ... Currently ... So ....it's potentially cross threaded/jammed ? ... And the inner screw OR the plastic head is free spinning .... Money is on the plastic head still ....

In general ... I can see why they did it this way ... But it's prone to this happening!! ... The cover is not classed as waterproof anyway , only a weather shield.... So I would have made the head hollow with some sort of key way off the screw head ... And a pop in/pop out cover button thingy for the middle of the plastic head!!! ....

Friggin design engineers!! :rolleyes:o_O

What I'm thinking ... Is more or less what you said before Steel .... But I'll carefully drill out the middle of the plastic cap ... And see if I can find a Phillips head in there or something? ....

Then if successful and I can remove the cover... Pull the old bolt out completely .... And rummage through my bolt cans .... Stove bolts, electrical bolts, old bolts , new bolts etc .. All in small size..... Find one that does fit in to the camera.... Then mini rubber o-rings or similar to fix the sucker back on hopefully....

OR ... Use existing bolt if it's not fragged ... And superglue or epoxy the head into the remains of the plastic knob ....

I say again.... Friggin Design Engineers!!!! :rolleyes:o_O

Sounds like a plan. And you still have your original cover to work with too, as either replacement parts, or as the recipient of a missing rubber cover.

Just a thought. If it is the small screw inside the knob that's come adrift, maybe you can simply lever the knob off - after all, what is holding it on to that small screw?

Come aDrift !!! Lol!! :D

Yeah ... Thought of levering it off... But if I can keep the outer knurled section intact then I can re use it perhaps? ... Epoxy the bolt head in and use liquid rubber to seal it smooth ...

Also .. Levering.... I don't exactly know what the tensile/brittleness of the camera case 'nut' section is.... I really don't wanna snap the bloody arse out of the chassis!!

Hmmm ... Ok .. The central 'button' of the knob .. Is just that , a button/cover ... Could not get enough pressure on it to lever it out but Drilled into it and it's only a couple mm thick .... Inside that is a hex channel/hub that goes down to a smooth flat metal end of the bolt ....

I can easily see now that the head is not turning as I rotate the knob outer.... So it's that bit slipping .. The pain in the arse now and the problem ... Is how to secure the smooth head into the plastic knob OR get something to physically rotate the bolt? ...

The access shaft is so small and narrow I doubt I'd ever get enough pressure onto the head to turn it....

But if I drop some glue or epoxy in there ... And it DOES NOT bond to the head.... Then I have a blocked access shaft!!

Why..... WHY didn't they just use a hex head mini bolt to snugly fit into the friggin shaft hole?? ...

I'm gonna have to go to Drift HQ and crack some heads together!!! ... Oh yes I could send the camera there and they fix it..... Or some such... But it's the stupid FUCKING design that's shitting me!!! .... Fucken CAD geeks!!
