What are your thoughts on these two cameras, pros/cons? I am leaning towards the Drift because it is can mount on my helmet with a lower profile than the GoPro. But on the other hand the GoPro can record at higher frame rates.

So let me know what your opinions/experiences are with these two camera. Thanks!

i have gopro silver and i like it for video quality and its battery last long enough to vlog and do what i want. but im not a fan of how far it sticks off the helmet thats the only reason im buying a drift in the net couple of weeks. but if you can get over how far the gopro sticks off your helmet its a great camera to vlog with. also the mic adapter for gopro is like 20 bucks thats the second reason im not a huge fan. it doesnt have a built in port for a external mic.

Thanks!

I'm still split 50/50 on this so any feedback is appreciated.

Now I'm thinking if I have the money I should go with the GoPro Hero 3+ black, and if I don't have the money the Drift Ghost HD.

I'll look like I'm totally biased towards Drift because I have one but actually, I hate all camera companies. They never gave me proper support on their products.
Both cameras are the same, they use the same hardware with a few tweaks here and there so quality wise they stand equal.

I'd prefer the drift because of the form factor and the rotable lens. It's a life saver when you mount the camera in awkward positions. There aren't many mounting options with the gopros and they look silly, like a sailing foil when mounted on the side of the helmet. Also proprietary everything makes a GoPro a poor decision (proprietary mounts, connectors, accesories) and also the stupid cage that doesn't allow any accessory to be connected with the camera inside.

With the drift you get more mounting options, you can use common camera mounts if you don't like the clips included with the camera (it has a threaded socket you can use with any camera tripod or mount), you get standard connectors (HDMI, USB, 3.5mm for audio) and you can use the mic and data connection without problems with the camera mounted to anything and even with the back hatch closed using the non-waterproof cover.

I have both but I always go for the drift, it's basically click on and play.

I find the battery is far better on the drift as well.

More function on the drift, well it's easier to just get on and do stuff.

Just a word of warning the Drift Ghost HD sucks at low light (night time) shooting as the lights flare a lot, the new drift is much better as they have made a specific night time mode for it. Why they haven't patched the Ghost though sucks big balls!

Thanks everyone!

A quick question, can you use any mono external microphone with the drift ghost or only the one they sell? Also can you use a stereo mic with an adapter?

I love my drift HD Ghost but low light and at night its rubbish. However I like how it doesn't stick out as much as the Go Pro.

Like everyone else has said it really depends on what you're going for and what you prioritise. If you want the best quality video or plan to shoot in low light a lot then go for the Go Pro. How with that you sacrifice some battery life and easily connectable extensions such as a mic, not to mention some form factor as it sticks out quite a fair bit wherever you mount it. On the flip side the drift has a much lower profile and the mic is able to connect a lot easier and the battery life lasts a fair bit longer. The video quality is still good but not AS good as the Go Pro, and night quality is definitely lagging a small way behind. The Go Pro does have that plug and play thing going for it. Whereas from what I've heard of the Go Pro it sounds as though there will be a lot of faffing initially before you get your set up right for you.

Hope that helps.
